Help with Identifing Tannoy speakers and cabinet

    Hi everyone,
Just joined the forum. Thanks for creating such a great community.

I just picked up some Tannoy 12" Red monitors and cabinets which Im really excited about. I was wondering if anyone could help me confirm the identify of the monitors but also the cabinet? Do you think the cabinet was made by Tannoy and is possibly original? There is no branding on the cabinet so my first impression is that it's home made.

Any ideas on price for these speakers and cabinet?

    Serial numbers on speakers are:
    054894
    054885

One of the monitors centre cone is slightly dented in which I will have to gently pop back out. I was going to go with technique of a tube placed on the cone and gently sucking on the tube to pull out the cone. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Marz

Welcome Marz! Back in those days it was common to buy drivers and have them installed in other cabinets, and I think that might be the case here. Barzilay was a common choice. Your idea of using the tube is good, if it doesn't work gently affix masking tape and pull it out. That should be a mesh cover over the horn...

    Thanks Douger,
Any idea where I can find exact specs of the monitors such as watts and Ohms? Just want to make sure I use the right amp to test them. It says 15 ohms on the back but not 100% sure how many watts I need from an amp to power them.

You should be good with 25 watts per channel max. A very good reference site is www.hilberink.com/speakers. Enjoy those reds, they are highly respected

I don't think that link is what you meant to post. Can you check it and repost?

You caught me, Joe! I noticed that Hilberink did not address Red power handling, but it is a very good site in general, history and diy cabinets...
I hope it might be generally helpful

Hi all - Joining this discussion as I have a vintage Tannoy that I also need help identifying. The serial number is 019486 (or perhaps it's a 019436?). No other numbers on the label, may have been on the crossover which I do not have. Determined that it's likely 1957, but the actual model is uncertain.
