JBL Synthesis owners?
I noticed there's no JBL threads, so I decided to make one myself...
I'm the owner of the S4700 model, and it's a pretty cool speaker.
What made you choose JBL Synthesis and why?
Are you satisfied with them, or not?

Re: JBL Synthesis owners?
The root I suppose goes way back, I worked for an electronics distributor/retailer, we sold Electro-Voice pro, I was smitten by a 15" 2-way and how incredible the EV horns/compression drivers sounded. I just couldn't convince my wife road carpet cabinet went with our décor. So I opted for a set of Infinity Kappa &'s, different sound but still enjoyable.
Since that time my exposure to JBL was a few models in big box stores and car audio, nothing I'd consider for "high end" home use.
I found a local installer who carried the Synthesis, I heard a couple LS models & the Array 1400's and came away with respect. The 1400's I had a chance to buy but I couldn't get the imaging I wanted in my room and my EL34 monoblocks didn't feed them like they wanted.
Hit fast forward again, different system and the dealer brings in a set of 4367's. He brought them over to me for a listen and to help break in, they are still here and have switched ownership to me .They took a good while to break in to where the compression drivers smoothed out and the bass response smoothed out, at first a big bass hump. I think the dealer thought he may have made a mistake, he thinks you can tell basic character out of the box. I disagree in speakers for the most part. The 4367's are the speaker if you want the music to sound live, bass sounds like it is being played in the room, drums have the crack and dynamics, no distortion even when driven at high volume. I love these speakers. Vocals are natural and sound like the performer is in the room. My only criticism the 4367 does not play as low as other floorstanders I've used, the bass is deep but in recordings with low bass I am familiar with I can really detect the roll off. Other than those few recordings though I don't really miss that last octave or so, the 4367 delivers dynamics in spades.
My wife still isn't thrilled with the look and size of the 4367 but she relegated my sound/media area to the lower level when we moved into our current house, so I stood my ground, LOL.Aurender ACS10 w/Audioquest Diamond USB, Esoteric N05xd

OMG! JBL 4367's!
I absolutely love mine for all the reasons stated above. Smooth - never harsh, sweet, bassy, great at low volume for me too. A great, fun speaker.Fleetwood Deville by Oswald Mills Audio, Vienna Acoustics Haydn Jubilee, Wharfedale Linton w/ stands, Klipsch RB-75, Klipsch RP-160M.

Re: JBL Synthesis owners?
yeah, i heard those 4367s are really good..i have the s4700s and they're ok, but no big deal i'd say..i've had 'em for 4 years now; i suspect the 4367s are better...basically, there is a great deal right now at jbl.com for the 4312ds...i was thinkin' of getting 2 pairs of those and stacking them on top of each other...2 per channel. then sell the s4700s and i hope to get 8k, 9k at the very most...they're like brand new really but they do need to be dusted off...anyway, sell those and basically use the sale money to buy a new amp for around 6k and pocketing the rest...

Re: JBL Synthesis owners?
I haven't heard the 4700's. An internet friend was shopping the 4367, the store had the 4700 on display & his response to them was similar to yours. He did end up with 4367's and likes them a lot.
I would maybe contact JBL to get an opinion on stacking, I'm not sure how that would work & don't know anyone who has done it.
I was over at friend's houses last night who have nice speakers and systems in general, I believe listening to the purity of the 4367's highs has spoiled my ears as on their systems cymbals and the like just weren't as satisfying, or natural sounding. Both of their speakers cost more than the 4367's.Aurender ACS10 w/Audioquest Diamond USB, Esoteric N05xd

Did anyone take advantage of the JBL.com sale? Looks like all the 4312D's are gone as well as many others.

Re: JBL Synthesis owners?
Finally got around to hooking up my JBL 4312D's. I took advantage of the sale/closeout and paid $389 with a total of $420 which includes tax (I just realized the shipping was free). Another great score. I'd like to thank Dave above for the sale heads up. At first they only sent one speaker then when I called, they were able to locate the partner. A pair consists of a left and right speaker.
Wow, I am so happy that I jumped on them. Absolutely wonderful and breaking in now. 93 db at 6 ohms if I remember correctly. These with my Job INTegrated sound fantastic right now.
How can I go wrong? They sound better than I remember. JBL rocks.Last edited by joeinid; November 25, 2016 at 11:40 PM.

Re: JBL Synthesis owners?
Thanks Peabody for your impressions on 4367. Agree with your experience. I'm currently using Lamm pre and power amp to drive 4367 and are very satisfied with live performance music. Take a while for me break them in too. Once they are run in, they really play music as if the musicians are in your room. You will play much louder than you used to be with other speakers but with no sense of distortion.

Re: JBL Synthesis owners?
Hi Leslie, welcome to AS.
You are right, I do find myself listening at a high volume. One, I don't realize it until I hear something else as a reference, like someone trying to talk to me, LOL, and, I like my volume at a quasi realistic volume. You know if an instrument was in your room live it will produce a higher dB than a low volume. This may not make sense without a dB meter reading. If I was at a Jazz club in the front row it will be louder than background music, is what I mean. I do draw the line at Rock concert level, most of the time,Aurender ACS10 w/Audioquest Diamond USB, Esoteric N05xd

Has anyone use stand for the 4367? I have ordered a pair from sound anchor. Looking forward to hear more improvement on the lower end once putting them on the stand.

They are called Signature Stand with four 3” by 3” posts weighted 165lb each!

Those are some hefty stands. I don't have mine on anything, it would be interesting to hear them up a bit to see how it effects the sound.

Re: JBL Synthesis owners?
Cool. I've bought all my speakers blindly. Coincident PRE, Wilson's, 3 pairs of Magico's. All that demo'ing speakers in a dealer show room tells you is how they won't sound in your own home. Pointless exercise in my opinion.

Re: JBL Synthesis owners?
Apart from Magico MPro speakers in the Radar #1 show room in Hong Kong, I'm yet to hear a speaker in any dealer show room that sounded half decent. Caveat. I haven't visited Suncoast yet but it is on my bucket list. Maybe when I come to Miami to cruise on Odyssey of the Seas I'll make the detour.

I upgraded the power supply on my Gigafoil v4 to a Weiss PSU 102. It’s very nice step up. But with the new model, you’re looking at $2000 before even investing in a SOTA linear power supply.
