    Hi Rob,

I've had the Salon 2's for two years now and I find them to be an incredibly flexible speaker as far as tailoring them to work in a listening room. My room isn't particularly large (21 feet x 14 to 16 feet) and I've never had a bass or treble issue with them. As Mike alluded to, the downfiring woofer port and the ultra smooth beryllium tweeter, combined with the bass and treble attenuation switches, make the Salon 2 one of the most versatile speakers on the market. Even though the speaker is rather large (53 inches tall and 23 inches deep), its narrow profile (14 inches wide) makes it rather inconspicuous in my room. A great design all the way around.

    Best,
    Ken

Congrats on the new, old speakers Mark. You gave the upgrade bug a serious try. At least now you know that you've chosen the right speakers and can move on to other things.

    Hi Mark,

I'm probably going to keep my Salon 2's around for awhile until I'm sure that I prefer the D3's. The reason I went for the D3's is because they are the best speakers I've ever heard at low to mid volume levels. If I cranked the volume up more often or played more rock, I'm quite sure I wouldn't be making this move. The Salon 2's love to be cranked up.

    Best,
    Ken

    Ken,

Having been down that road, I think you're making a wise decision. You will no doubt love the D3's,as did I, but if I could have both, that would have been the best of both worlds.
The D3's have something about them that is so intoxicating. At low to moderate volumes, they will be hard to beat. But as a man that loves to crank up the volume and "Rock out" on occasion, I needed to go back to what works the best for me.
The Salon's paired with the Hegel H30 is a fantastic combination, and the tweeter is so great that it doesn't bother my tinnutis.
I still think you will prefer the D3's with your habit of listening at low volumes. But now you can have your cake, and eat it too !

    Thanks Mark,

I don't know of many speakers that can play bigger, louder and cleaner than the Salon 2's. They are heavyweight full range loudspeakers. And I totally agree with you about the tweeter, it is smooth as silk even at high volume levels and it never aggravates my tinnitus either. We'll see how the D3's work in my listening room. Stay tuned!

    Best,
    Ken

Mark I second David's idea of getting the no.52 pre made my system move to a whole another level. I also think the No. 52 pre will work well with a few different amps.

    Congrats

Can you tell us about the Salon 2's versus the F208's ?

    Hi Pac Man,

I've done a direct comparison of the Salon 2 and F208 with the same music, same components and in the same listening room. The F208 in my opinion is one of the great values in high end audio. I think they sound better than many speakers more than twice their cost. If I had $5k to spend on speakers, they would be my first choice. However, the Salon 2 are on an entirely different level than the F208 in virtually every way: transparency, soundstage, imaging, dynamics, refinement, bass response, treble smoothness, etc.

    Best,
    Ken
