Well got them Friday, later than expected. Unpacked them right away, they are the dark walnut, they look real nice.

But had a real family filled weekend, so I have not moved out the heavy Q3's and put in the DC10's for a listen.

I will report back in a day or two OK.

Greetings! I have had Tannoy 12" Monitor Golds in Altec Santana cabinets since 1972, and have had Canterbury SE's for 3 years now. That Tannoy koolaid is good! BTW, I do not see
any mention of Dr. Gizmo on this site, much great Tannoy writing at meta-gizmo.com. Still worth a read...

The DC10a's are a really nice, much fuller sounding than how I remember the Kensington SE's sounding. I have yet to hear the Kensington GR's so not sure how they compare.

They have that typical Tannoy naturalness and musicality yet still give you goose bumps with their fantastic bold lively dynamic midrange. No surprises here but the bass, I was not expecting such great bass out of 10" two way, deep and forceful.

They do not have effortless dynamics as the 15"ers, the low distortion and neutrality of say a Magico, The SPL available from a Bryston Model T. No speaker is perfect, but these come close as they are reasonably priced, not too big, good looking, musical, powerful and dynamic, great staging, etc...

    I really like them

Can't wait to listen to them. Their finish is so nice as well. Must be good for some one who has modern interior room.

Mike, how does the LM 219 foot it against the Cary amps?

I haven't done a head to head shootout - but the Cary's with circa 1940 211 tubes and WE 300b's, sounds very classic tubey. Glorious midrange bloom. Full sound. Bass is good at 4db feedback (you can adjust feedback to dial in to your room/speakers). Top end is smooth - some would say "ever so slightly rolled off".

The LM219ia with WE replica 845's and 300b's, sounds very sweet, more dynamic, great bass. Top end is more extended.

The Cary's win in the midrange, the 219ia win in the bass and highs. I don't feel either is under rated or under powered.

Given that both are "about" the same price, I would have a hard time choosing. Probably the Cary's because they are made in the U.S. and if the amp needed repairing - the company is right here. Plus, tech support with the end company is a call away.
