Re: Starting Point - Bob's new room and Alexia's new home
Certainly not in a similar way to a filiment incandescent, halogen, or xenon bulb, which shifts dramatically warmer and 'orange-er' as they dim. The same way a wood fire shifts as the flames dim.
There are some LED bulbs now which are beginning to incorporate color shifting technology, and many that are made up using multiple elements which can be controlled to create different color effects.
If you can point to real world products, like recessed ceiling lights, that dim and color shift like incandescent, without costing north of $400-700+ per fixture, that would be valuable information. Else your comment is just a contrarian out-of-the-blue statement of no value.
... making an LED source dim with a similar color shift to a halogen source, maintaining color quality along the way, has presented significant technical challenges to designers of LED emitters and fixtures....when an LED dims as less current is passed through it, the color temperature shift is very small because thermal radiation represents a negligible portion of the total light emitted. In fact, the hue change as an LED dims is hardly discernible to the human eye.

Re: Starting Point - Bob's new room and Alexia's new home
Finally getting the room together. I placed the speakers in similar position to what they were before the remodel... a little further apart, similarly tucked in the corner. My Wilson dealer will be down in a couple weeks to do final setup/voicing. I spent a couple hours listening last night and I have to say the room sounds fantastic. I'll leave it to the Wilson rep to get the voicing just right, while I got the imaging dialed in the coherence top to bottom isn't quite right. Still, what I was hearing has me very excited for whats to come.
As a reminder of where it all started, here's a couple before and after pics.
When we moved in, it was all "Man Cave" setup. Projection screen, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, wetbar.
I installed some nice wool carpet, cut like a giant area rug, and assembled the rig. Speakers were fairly deep in the corners, but sounded very good. Several buddies claimed it was the best they'd heard the Alexias.
The early morning sun was shining in the room so I had to pump up the lights in order to get a photo. Record storage cabinet is to be delivered this week, then the boxes will get off the floor over on the right side of the room.
And the rear of the room. (Wine cellar on the other side of the curtains!)
We started October 13th. Originally hoped to be done by Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then it was just a matter of it'll be done when its done. Projects can be that way!

Re: Starting Point - Bob's new room and Alexia's new home
My room is open at the rear, with one side opening to a hallway where the wine cellar is, and beyond that 3 bedrooms. Opposite that are the stairs leading into the room from the upper floor. The curtains have custom acoustic lining. But, if you're in the hallway with the glass of the wine cellar to your side and clap you hands, the decay and ring is substantial. Further down, the hallway angles off to the bedrooms.
With the curtains open a loud hand-clap can be heard ringing down the hallway. There was some left over hard fiberglass insulation from the remodel, so I placed a couple sheets in the hallway. One opposite the wine cellar, one on the angled wall just beyond... with the panels resting against the wall a hand clap is muffled and there is no long decay.
I also had a fair amount of fabric left over. So I went online to FabricWall and ordered some track. On the angled wall I used 2" track, and opposite the wine cellar I am going to use 1/2". Fairly easy to work with—just install the track, secure the fiberglass panel, then stretch the fabric over the whole frame and tuck the fabric into the groove in the track. For those wishing to add a little absorption to their room, this is an easy elegant solution. In my case I just wanted to reduce some of that energy leaving the room so that it didn't come back.

Re: Starting Point - Bob's new room and Alexia's new home
As metaphacts has pointed out, these were designed as a dealer installation tool, allowing for the installation of the WA spikes, leveling and then fine tuning the final positions.
I don't know when the sliders were introduced.
When my WASP was done, my WA dealer didn't have them, but I think they're would be a very effective tool in the hands of a properly trained WA dealer.

Re: Starting Point - Bob's new room and Alexia's new home
Dan these sliders are made for us, not by us. We don't have many made, further increasing their price. They were never meant to be a product. They only make sense if they will be in use constantly. We've been using them for over a year.
They are on the website because end users (Wilson and non-Wilson owners) who saw them in use at dealers expressed a desire to own them. Despite our warnings that they would be very expensive, end users persisted. So they have recently been made available.
Hope this helps.

Re: Starting Point - Bob's new room and Alexia's new home
My speaker setup guy from Seattle came down Saturday and spent better part of 6 hours getting the Alexias sounding their best in the new space. Sonically, listening to "Stimella" on Hugh Masakela's HOPE lp, there is a large percussive climax near the end of the song that in the prior space just became a bit of a hot mess—the energy just got the room too excited and the sound became confused. Sure the transient attacks were there, but overall things kind of went to hell. Now, after the remodel, I am able to crank it and that climax remains clear and focused. On that score, the remodel is a huge success—big orchestral crescendos remain tightly focused, to the point where the little REF75 with KT150s might actually start to show a little weakness.
Now with speaker's in position and the vinyl cabinet installed, here's the final result—we even moved some vases from a local artist down into the room and they fit in perfectly.
One more from the listening position, with Merlin the cat giving his "cat's meow" symbol of approval.

Superb setup, I hope you you'll enjoy it.
PS: On Stimela, I think it's also the levels of percussion layering in at the beginning, which will reveal quite a bit about the setup .

Re: Starting Point - Bob's new room and Alexia's new home
I've been living with the new room now for a couple of months, listening for a hour or two at a time as my schedule would allow. Speakers have not moved since they were setup & voiced by my Wilson rep, but I did move the gear rack about 6 inches toward the front of the room—mostly for aesthetics, but also so my power cables would reach the Shunyata conditioner.
Last night I had a few audiophiles over for a "debut'' of the new space. A few comments are listed below:
Leo said:I have to say it is comforting to have some folks who are true audiophiles offer positive comments. While I have been saying to my wife how much better the room sounds, there has been that nagging voice in my head that says maybe its all just expectation bias.
"There's such a big difference in the bass! And in the overall acoustics of the room. I'd say it's a big success."
Mike said:
"Bob, very impressed with the outcome. Excellent soundstage, pinpoint positioning of instruments, vocalists are there in the room. You can hear the emotion in their voices. Nice bass, tuned, balanced and deep. Tonal balance is good throughout. Please don't try and tweak, just let your soul enjoy the good music you've collected."
George said:
Thanks for having us over and for the excellent wine. First the room looks really great, dedicated listing room for sure. I thought the prior room was great, this is even better. Also love the wine cellar. As for sound, definitely a step or two better, except for the bass, that is a quantum leap better. Amazing how much better the bass became without losing the detail yet increasing the soundstage. Great investment and worth the time spent.
Oh yes, also just added Shunyata Triton v3 and New AlphaNR cable (between Triton and Ref10). The triton replaced a Hydra v2, 4 or 5 generations old. A not subtle lowering of noise floor, everything comes through with a bit more presence, weight, and 'verve'. Still settling in—the new Shunyata process of pre-conditioning the unit before shipping means it is already about 90+% done. Nice upgrade!
With the new room, I feel now like my systems is at least playing in the big leagues. No where near some folks level, but I'd be happy sharing some tunes with even the most seasoned audiophile. Y'all are welcome if you're in Portland, Oregon area or passing through.

Re: Starting Point - Bob's new room and Alexia's new home
Back when I first heard the Diesis, I was visualizing them in my room. Interestingly, they are about the same height as my Alexias, they weigh about the same, but they're a bit wider. (The Alsyvox also weigh about the same.)
After a wee little bit of Photoshop fun...

Re: Starting Point - Bob's new room and Alexia's new home
Its a wonderful space, but sadly I’m totally down awaiting all the new gear to come in. Speakers via ocean freight from Spain, from Italy, and from Denmark. Electronics (Pilium) will ship via air when completed but global supply chain is messing up manufacturing globally so it is all taking just a bit longer than I hoped. I guess I’ll commission that piece of art for my wall I’ve been postponing.

Re: Starting Point - Bob's new room and Alexia's new home
At last, my Pilium Achilles stereo amp is nearly complete. Here's a little photo of it getting stress tested before shipping. How 'bout those tiny little custom capacitors!
Should be en-route by air by the end of next week.

Re: Starting Point - Bob's new room and Alexia's new home
Just a little update, the Diesis Roma arrived last week. Below is a little photo essay of the route from delivery truck to my listening room...
Roma-arrival.jpg
The truck arrives and shipment integrity appears intact.

Safely into the garage

You might think an open baffle speaker wouldn't be too heavy, but the supporting frame for the Roma is a concrete slurry and some kind of fibers. The weight of a single speaker ~250 lbs., more than I want to carry down a long flight of stairs. But, I happen to have a little Kubota tractor with some fork attachments.

And down the path to the lower level.

Secure on the porch

Moved inside to begin extraction!

And here is Diesis Roma SE
Leather-wrapped-frame.jpg
The "SE" is a special edition where the frame is wrapped in hand stitched leather. A few wrinkles from being packed so tightly in the flight case will relax over time.

Removing the little cover exposes the open baffle woofers (15")

Re: Starting Point - Bob's new room and Alexia's new home
Up-thread, I mentioned commissioning a piece of art for my room. I pulled the trigger several weeks back figuring with the room torn apart waiting for new kit, it would be a good time. I don’t want to lean over the racks and gear to hang artwork. Below is a photoshopped mockup of the piece that should ship at the end of this week.
