    Re: Momentum preamplifier

Do you guys think it was a little half baked? Rushed to market? I remember when the amps came out, people were almost immediately saying "what about a preamp Dan?"

I think it looks great and probably sounds great.

Joe...Dan mentioned this when he did the demo at Fideliis but look hrough the manual as I believe there is a way to defeat that feature.

    Hi Cyril,

Short of a programming change (if that is even possible), there is no way to defeat this "feature". Besides, there really is NO manual, yet.

    Re: Momentum preamplifier

I don't have a clue if it was rushed per se. I really think that these things are more the fact that Dan is a great engineer and engineers seem like they really don't live in the real world. So a lot of these "good ideas" just don't appeal to the public as well as to him. He has said that he purposely didn't do a 0 position on the tome controls because he wanted +-6 db and only had 12 positions. I'll bet that he thought if the preamp is on mute, it should have some big notice to the user that it's muted. These were decisions that he made and time/money didn't have anything to do with it. It wasn't like they ran out of time to design or fix it.

As he gets feedback, I'll bet that he will change some things.

    Just my thoughts.

With all due respect to DD, I think it is monumentally unforgivable to have equipment at this price point and not have a manual for the preamp. I just went on his website and there isn't even an online version. You know for $32K, a manual is not too much to ask for, is it??

DD probably expects his dealers making the big margins to be conducting any training required for his pre and amps. For any audiophile, the pre and amp are not difficult to setup or use.

That said, a manual for the pre and amp would be nice, thanking us for buying at least after all some of us need some reinforcement.

BTW. Did I say that the volume control on the front of the pre is the BEST I have ever seen or used.
It sort of makes you want to walk up and use it.

A big +1. I brush my hand across it to lower the volume, instead of using the flashing, neon bright mute "feature". VERY smooth and silky. Love it.

Shane...dealer training or not, the damn thing should come with a manual I do agree though that the volume control is pretty nifty. Checked it out at a demo of the pre, stereo amp and Wilson Alexias about a month ago at a "local" (about an hour away) dealer.

    Re: Momentum preamplifier

Too bad the dealers are figuring out the preamp along with us.

I agree that a manual would be great, and in many ways not having one is sorta inexcusable but -- over the years as an early adopter I have become accustomed to no or bad/wrong info in manuals at first. And this is not just audio related. It happens in many industries etc. Computer software is the worst.

Joe - does yours when in mute change colors when you change phases?

    Re: Momentum preamplifier

The color changes are done by design obviously to visually inform you when in mute or when phase is inverted. I still believe Dan mentioned a way to defeat all the the lights on the front panel. An email or a call into DD on Monday should be able to clear it all up.
