Believe me when I saw that listing I tossed and turned all night trying to figure out how I might make that happen. Even selling off all my gear would have left me a nice chunk short.

We were obviously on the same wave length! For me, it's my room....oh, and finances too! But talk about a system to take you into retirement. The ultimate exit system.

Now, is it made in Germany or China? I keep getting confused.

I have heard several outstanding systems over the past 8 years and my current one is no slouch. All I can say is that the properly set-up MBL xTreme system I heard in Singapore was my "audio epiphany". I still don't know how those 4 large speakers disappeared and the room was just energized by the music.

It is quite possible that if you compared individual components you might prefer something else, but as a system nothing has bettered it yet.

Your current system definitely is no slouch. I heard the MBL 101 Xtremes in Phoenix at LMC. My brain had a hard time comprehending what I was hearing. The dimensionality that that system produced was incredible. I literally could imagine the drums in the back left, piano front left, guitar front right and bass, back right - with the singer front and center.

Like the XLF system I heard at RMAF, these systems are clearly on another level.

    MBL system = OMG

Even the "smaller" MBL system at this year's RMAF was really really good. It did help that they were playing some Tapes on the RtoR - talking heads - total disappearing act.

Well, it's a nice discount off of retail, but you still need the room and the bank account.

Hi Mike...if you can, I would love to hear any comments about the comparison between these 2 systems. I know...I know...different rooms, different music maybe, etc. Nevertheless, if you can make any comments, I would love to read them. I have heard the XLFs in a system and room I know well and with music I know well...on 3 occasions. I also have heard superbly well setup massive Genesis 1.2s with a Scarlatti, all-Kondo setup. I also have heard a full-on Arrakis 2 setup with 4 VTL Siegfried 2 monos and 7.5 Series III pre, Clearaudio Super-Reference whatever...forgot the name...but the grand daddy turntable from Clearaudio. And I have some thoughts about how those compared. Thanks for any guidance!

Lloyd - both of these systems are world class. The best of the best. One is Ferrari, the other is Lamborghini. But let me see.....

In terms of pure HiFi and Dynamics, the edge definitely goes to the Wilson XLF/Thors Hammer combination. The impact of the bass drum was life like. When I closed my eyes and heard the trumpets playing, I could imagine myself back in the band. Everything about them was BIG, pure and musical.

Now, in terms of holographic imaging, the winner is definitely the MBL 101 XTremes. The soundstage is so wide and so deep (and I mean DEEP), that your mind has difficulty comprehending what you are hearing. That being said, they lack a little in terms of body and fullness. But again, we are pointing out the mark on the heel of the supermodel here.

The Wilson's are much more adaptable to amplification with their wonderful efficiency rating for such a big speaker. The MBL's are designed around an ecosystem of MBL electronics.

Hi Mike...a follow up question. have you ever heard the Arrakis II or the Genesis 1.2/Dragons? I apologize if I've asked before. I have heard these, and the XLFs (though not with the Thors)...I have my own preliminary impressions...but would appreciate further thoughts on this. If you have heard these, would love to know how they compare in your opinion to what you heard at RMAF and more generally to the XLFs. Thanks.

Yes! I wonder how they compare to the later generations of Genesis/Infinitys like Gary Koh's Genesis 1.2 and the flagship version of the 1.2, the Dragon. There are in fact 2 others i'd like to hear from days of old: Martin Logan Statements and the 'only-25-ever-made' Apogee Grands...the ones which came with 6 monoblocks of Krell amplification.
