    Thanks for the review!

I currently have a D2 and love it but I've been wondering how much better the T2 can be for nearly double the price. I haven't been able to find any head-to-head comparisons of the two players. I'd especially like to know how the T2 betters the D2.

I can't be the only one that has considered upgrading since the introduction of the T2.

I did this upgrade from D2 to T2, after making the order and while waiting I almost started to doubt if I made the right decision as I was very happy with my D2 at the time, but just plugging the T2 in and having a first listen it was quite obvious it that was performing on a completely different level. They do have different DAC chips though, the Wolfson chip in the D2 might give you a bit more warmth than the Sabre chip in the T2, but when it comes to details, bass, sound stage and just general performance, the T2 is a big step up that motivates its price difference I would say. AND, it's so much nicer looking as well!

Even though I have since then moved on to a U1 Mini with a separate DAC I still think the T2 is a great sounding one-box streaming product that a lot of people would be super happy to own. I actually had no plans at all to let go off mine, but then I was fed some ideas into my head which got my brain spinning and in the end I couldn't resist moving into another (much more costly) direction.

Listen to the D2 and T2 in the same room and the same equipment, in my opinion the timbre is very similar, the sound of the T2 is much more open and detailed, the bass in the T2 are bigger and deeper, without exaggeration. If you can pay for the T2 I think it is worth it (although I also love the D2). Aesthetically T2 more beautiful. Luck

I demoed the D2 and T2 a while ago with the same equipment and I thought the D2 sounded a little 'muted/muffled' compared to the T2. The music was just so much more spacious and clear using the T2. D2 is great value for money but the jump in quality from the D2 to the T2 was astonishing and IMO is more than worth the money.

    Tubes,
I've owned a T2 a year. Came from an Oppo Sonica. I also considered a D2. The Lumin T2 has a much better chip set and power supply with many trickle down features from the upper range of Lumin models. I was familiar with the D2 dac chips and knew they would not be as resolving or as tonally accurate and dynamic. I am very satisfied with this purchase

Would you say the mini with your own dac is better than the T2? Hardball question I know sorry

    Well, it's different...

I think T2 is a great all-in-one package deal. Going separates involves other factors as more cables and anti-vibration feet etc, which for me is not a small or unimportant part of my system. Having a minimalistic system can have its advantages. The total cost is higher for the separates, my DAC also got a price bump of $500 shortly after I bought it and is now almost on the same price level as the T2 by itself.

But sure, I do appreciate the 3-dimensional, holographic and airy presentation that LampizatOr gives, having had a few of those before, so it was kind of coming back home again. In the end it's a question of personal preference though and if possible auditioning and testing before buying is always wise.
