What are you listening to tonight ?

Reinier Voet & Pigalle44 - Ballade Pour La Nuit DSD64. It’s acoustic guitars, standup bass and violin, no voices. Close your eyes and your as close as you’ll get, very, very nice!

Downloaded only from Soundliason, at DSD64 you won’t find this on Quboz or Tidal

Soundliason are masters at single microphone recordings. There’s no engineer playing with phases and other tweaks on multi track recordings - this is very natural sounding and will easily show off your system you have painstakingly built.

What are you listening to tonight ?

Frank Sinatra - Standing Room Only. Streaming from Quboz.

My Grandmother wasn’t a fan of Sinatra, but I am for a lot of reasons.

Live recording, not the best quality but gives you a feel of Franks stage presence.

My rebuilt and updated Soundsmith, "The Voice Ebony" cartridge has now broken in nicely and has really surpassed my Ortofon Cadenza Bronze in musical enjoyment in every parameter of which I can think. Anyway, currently listening to JJ Cale and Eric Clapion, "The Road To Escondido".

Moving from one great pianist to another. This is perhaps the my finest sounding 33.3rpm record. According to the Japanese label, it uses "Venus Hyper Magnum Sound, Direct Mix". Whatever, the results are as close to perfection as 33.3rpm gets. Dick Hyman Trio, "You're My Everything".

Re: What are you listening to tonight ?

Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsies. Downloaded as a remaster.

Hendrix is my all time favorite - perhaps nostalgia but growing up and playing his catalog as albums is where I want to get back to, especially hearing this album as Analog.

Machine Gun pulls out a lot of the stops on the electric guitar placing him as the highest paid musician toward the end of his brief career.

Fun fact; He did this album to settle a napkin deal before he left for England.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis Bold as Love, Quboz 44 kHz

Spanish Castle Magic. Minus the Magic, Spanish Castle was right up the street from my home and was a dance and music hall.

Fun Fact: “It takes about a half of day to get there” in the song is in reference to the unreliability of his car on the way to the gigs, this was all before he joined the 101st Airborne, The Screamin’ Eagles.

perhaps, a little too much deja vu...

blackout in NYC last night harkens back to 1977 blackout - both happened on july 13. of course, last night was no comparison to 1977.

also, 1977 had sam, elvis, blackout... however, this summer is still young

    to commemorate:

Re: What are you listening to tonight ?

I really like Buddy Miles. This combo should have been great. It's been a while since I've listned to it but my last impression of the album was a conflict of style. The songs seemed to have a R&B structure while Jimi wanted to still be Jimi. It's like the guitar didn't go with the rest of the song. It's still in my collection though
