Re: What are you listening to tonight ?

This might be the first "suggested" album in Roon that I have clicked on based on another artist I had listened to. I am very glad I gave this artist I had never heard of a go. It may be a bit too Pop for some of you but I found it pretty well recorded and a very relaxing album.

I was letting Qobuz pick jazz earlier tonight and found an South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim. Wonderful, well recorded music. Been listening to he and his band for a few hours now. Give them a listen.
The frist album I listened to was The Balance. He has 29 albums on Qobuz currently.

I find myself listening to more and more soundtracks these days. They just seem to be produced better with much better sound quality and dynamics than mass produced mainstream stuff.

Also, this album will give your subwoofer(s) a great workout!

I agree that for some time now soundtracks have offered some of the most interesting music in recent years.

I have enjoyed what Anne Sophie Mutter has done with John Williams in their recent collaboration “Across the Stars”. Many are close to classical.

Re: What are you listening to tonight ?

Small '60s jazz guitar combos...Tal Farlow, Herb Ellis, Kenny Burrell, Barney Kessel, Oscar Moore (with Nat King Cole), Bill Jennings (with Bill Doggett), Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, among others. Also like small organ combos and just about any kind of small jazz combos. Especially with great singers. But I'm a guitar player so I have a guitar bias. I rotate through these when I'm not listening to bluegrass music...and bluegrass guitar players.

another gem i have been listening to: horace parlan | up & down ...grant green as sideman really makes this release enjoyable, especially the later tracks.

fwiw: ran across this from roon's new AI driven recommendation engine, valance, which seem to be fairly good -- certainly more so than others such as netflix, YMMV.
