    Newbie streamer

    Hi all,
    I am new here.
after years enjoying mij nad cc390dd amp with stirling ls3/6 speakers, I upgraded to a hegel h390. I really love the sound of this setup.
I bought a pair of rel s510 subwoofers and a fanless nuc to stream.
At the moment I am thinking about an upgrade by buying an external streamer/dac.

    Newbie streamer

Welcome to the fold, there lies a whole playground of things to explore ahead of you.

As you already have a DAC in your amp, you can be looking for a pure streamer. An Auralic mini gets you up-and-running, entry level Lumin is the next step, and then you could look into a streaming DAC. But some of those can cost as much as your amp or even more.

A rather new market entry is the ifi Pro iDSD. Quite versatile and capable. Streams, does different media types, and has some different modes to play with. Or the Mytek Brooklyn DAC+.

    Enjoy the chase.

    Thank you for your input.
I was thinking to go for a lumin t2 (dac and streamer) which I can get with a nice discount because I was thinking a separate streamer won’t give me an upgrade. Also was looking at auralic Aries and use the internal dac of the hegel. Third option is to trade in the hegel h390 for a h590 (which has a better dac) and buy an allo diagione signature for streaming roon... Big question is, is it worth throwing that much cash to a streamer of streamer/dac or should I just upgrade tot h590. I will look at your suggestions 2.

Your streamer/ DAC is essentially your source, and lays the foundation for the SQ you get.

I would give the topic a long and hard look.

The Hegel H390 DAC is really very good.
I'd add a good streamer, like Auralic Aries G1 or G2, Bryston or Lumin.
You could always upgrade your DAC later on if you'd like to.

I really like the h390 and the internal dac. I read lots of good stuff about the Auralic G2 but don’t know if I ll use the full potential of this streamer with the internal dac of the hegel. The lumin t2 was offered me with a discount and is €800,00 cheaper than the auralic.

    Re: Newbie streamer

If you have the possibility to bring the T2 home and give it a try, would be great.
You can connect it as a streamer and also as a streamer/DAC to your Hegel and compare them.
In my case the T2 was a way better than an AVM MP 5.2 (all in one source) and also better in my system to a metronome DAC.
It’s up to you and your preferences
    Anyway, good luck

    Re: Newbie streamer

I was thinking along the lines of Bart but if the T1 is cheaper then that seems like a good move. Use which DAC sounds best or both for a choice.

I had a Hegel HD30 DAC and auditioned a 590 for a while. I haven't heard the 390 but suspect the DAC is probably better than the HD30 which I thought a very capable DAC. I'd also suspect the Lumin and Hegel to have two different presentations, so it may be fun to have both DAC's.

Don't under estimate your current DAC until hearing it to it's potential. I've found there's a definite difference is some streamers. I never realized how good my Levinson internal DAC was until I heard my current Aurender with it.

It is.... I am quite happy with it. I bought a new open box lumin u1 with discount and a sbooster powersupply. I am quite happy with it. I wonder how this lumin will compare to the internal streamer of the hegel once it is roon ready..
