Yeah, not exactly bluegrass. I’d say yes to “new grass”. My favorite bluegrass band is Blue Highway. Incredible musicians, writers, arrangers, and vocalists. Really nice people too. I also really liked The Boxcars when they were still together. Blue Moon Rising is another awesome neo-traditional bluegrass group. Their newest album is one of their best yet.

Re: Any bluegrass music fans out there?

You might just be shocked at how bluegrass has evolved. If you go to bluegrass festivals (indoor or outdoor) you might be very pleasantly surprised at what you hear. The level of musicianship in bluegrass music has skyrocketed in recent years.

Yes, traditional bluegrass is still very popular. But I particularly like "neo-traditional" bluegrass.....traditional bluegrass with a modern bent to it. Examples might include Blue Highway, Volume Five, Lonesome River Band, The Grascals, Special Consensus, Kenny and Amanda Smith, Claire Lynch, Becky Buller, The Boxcars, The Bluegrass Album Band, J. D. Crowe And The New South, just to name a few. Then there's "progressive bluegrass" featuring groups like The Infamous String Dusters, Nickel Creek, Cadillac Sky, The Kruger Brothers, Bela Fleck, The Sam Bush Band, The Traveling McCourys, Billy Strings, and Mountain Heart, Seldom Scene among many others. Like other genres of music bluegrass has expanded it boundaries significantly over the last two to three decades. If you haven't heard any bluegrass music lately you might be surprised, in a very good way, at what you hear. Check out Bluegrass Junction on Sirius/XM radio for a sample. Then you can stream your choices on Qobuz, Tidal, etc.

About as close as I get is Alison Krause and Union Station and Old Crow Medicine Show. Have seen both at least a couple of times live and they put on a show. I do have Doc Watson's "Southbound" tagged in Tidal/Roon and play that one every so often.

I like some Bluegrass but own very little due to not knowing wht I like. I need to do some exploring.

I too have a couple Alison Kraus, I have a Bluegrass Cardinals comp I really like, I have the 3 Pickers, Skaggs, Watson and I think Scruggs. I have the Oh Brother soundtrack. I have some Flecktones but I don't consider that BG. I'll have to see if Tidal has some of the suggestions thrown out.

I play Blues harmonica and jammed with some Bluegrass players one night and had a ball, so I guess I play both Blues and BG, LOL

Oh, I have a Hayseed Dixie album, you have to check them out if you haven't heard of them. I won't say more as to not take away from the fun,

It's hard to say what I might like until I hear it but I probably lean more traditional. I like traditional Country and have no use for what passes for Country these days.

To appreciate Hayseed I hope you have at least someRock background .

LOL!! Is 25+ years of playing in rock bands enough? I haven't played in a rock band since the '80s though. It was jump blues and swing jazz up to the early 2000s before I went all bluegrass in 2009. Been a bluegrass guitar flat picker the last 10 years. I also play mandolin and Scruggs style banjo.

That's OK. We can't all like the same thing. Try some other Blue Highway albums. I like some more than others myself. Somewhere Far Away is BH's latest album. I really like it. Check it out if you haven't already.

If you like the instruments of Bluegrass but not quite as much native bluegrass try Druha Trava. They are a Czech Republic band. The name means "second grass". Robert Krestan is the leader of the band.

Go to YouTube and search Druha Trava Wild Horses. The do a great version of the song.

Listening to them as a type.

I’m a big bluegrass fan. I can’t get enough of Billy Strings right now. I’ve seen them a dozen or so times over the last two years and they are getting better by the show. I’ll be seeing them twice at Winter Wondergrass Tahoe and twice in Boulder in the next two months. I am incredibly impressed at how good their live stuff sounds on Nugs.net...my new favorite streaming service.

I also agree Hayseed Dixie is a fun band I have two of their discs.
