It’s good to hear you’re making progress getting everything set up, Tom.

Still having difficulty getting the Roon Nucleus (Remote) to recognize the updated download. Our IP tech is coming to our house tomorrow to see if he can help. We just replaced our router about 6 weeks ago and he thinks that might be the issue. We'll see. I'll call Mike and have him talk to the tech. I'm sure they can solve it. Might have to force the download. Man, I can't wait to to hear some music on this system!!

One thing to check is make sure your Roon Core (Nucleus) and Roon Remote unit (Android, iPad, Windows Tablet, Computer) are on the same wireless band. Most routers have multiple bands (2.4, 5) and I have found sometimes they don't interact if they are not on the same band.

And the Grammy for patience goes to...drum roll......................anticipation builds..................and the winner is...........................Mike Bovairn of Suncoast Audio!!!!! Things don't go well with DACs when the router's wired and wireless networks are not on the same band. Did I say that right Mike? Anyway, I'm sure the IP tech will get the network/router issues sorted out. I can just hear the music already!

    Tom, what does this mean?

Are you saying that the Roon Nucleus itself is getting a network connection but a software or code update is not recognized by the Roon device?

    Or...

Is the Roon device itself not recognized on your network at all?

    Re: Incoming!

Mike B. might have to help me with this, but...the router's wired and wireless bands (Is that the correct term?) are not on the same network. It's a network/router issue and not a DAC issue. Hope that makes sense.

    Re: Incoming!

That sounds about what I was thinking. Routers now a day have multiple networks and the various devices have to be on the same network to speak to each other. Of course there certainly could be other issues .

Networking is so much fun.... NOT.

    Re: Incoming!

Randy, I think you described it perfectly. Should be fairly simple to remedy when the tech gets here. Just purchased the router from the IP about 6 weeks ago. It has worked well until I added a DAC. As you stated, the router wants to install it on another network. There are probably separate networks for wireless and wired.

There could also be differences in the VLANs used. If that's the case you'll just need to make sure that all your gear is on the same VLAN together.

Hope you get to hear music soon!

    Incoming!

Oh, guys............what can I say that hasn’t already been said about each of these components? They’re all simply outstanding. There are no superlatives that haven’t already been expressed by many others regarding the Pass Labs INT 250, MSB Discrete (dual power supply), Harbeth Super HL 5+ 40th Anniversary speakers, and Roon Nucleus. I’ll try and minimize the cliched superlatives and just give you, as much as possible, an honest description and review of this system.

Predictably, I have no choice but to give it extremely high props. I mean, this system simply and truly is what it is. It’s everything I was hoping for and far beyond that. I guess if you forced me to use words to describe it, I’d have to include the word “pure”. And whatever words you would use to describe this kind of purity and “real” sound. Meaning it sounds like the musicians are standing and playing right in front of you. Yet there is a huge, deep, sound stage. I know that the word “accurate “ has likely been overused over the last 50 years, but that word is very, well.....accurate! As I write this, the live Alison Krause and Union Station album is playing on my new system in the background. The sound quality is beyond outstanding. Especially for a live performance. And the new Blue Highway album (Somewhere Far Away) that I played yesterday...absolutely superb.

Another descriptor I would use for the sound of this system is “smooth”. Buttery smooth. It has everything I want and nothing I don’t. Just the right amount of beautifully tight, big, big, low end, midrange, and perfect top end.

It’s very straight ahead simple. The INT 250 is as simple as you get. Just an amp and preamp in one box. That’s it. Nothing else. But superbly designed and crafted.

And, then there’s the dual power supply MSB Discrete. It adds a subtle robustness to the sound. It makes an already superb sounding amp sound even better. Not sure how. It just does. Keep in mind I’m not a “tech-y” person. I just attempt to describe things as I hear them. However, I’m a long time musician with a very sharp set of ears. I know when I hear something that’s really good. And this system is really, really, good.

It’s very difficult to have a great sounding audio system without good sounding speakers. And, IMHO, Harbeth speakers are about as good as it gets. I specifically purchased the Harbeth Super HL 5+ 40th Anniversary for their super tweeter and modded crossover. I’ll use the same descriptors for the Harbeths as the ones I used to describe the Pass INT 250 integrated amp and MSB DAC and let it go at that. My ears LOVE Harbeth speakers, period. Don’t have anything else to say about them other than that. And the system synergy...simply outstanding.

Next, the Roon Nucleus. Really fun. What else can I say? It’s obviously extremely useful for managing my very large ripped CD collection and streamed music, my only sources.

It’s been a dream come true to have a system like this. And it’s been a long, long, wait. But I wouldn’t have changed a thing. As I stated above, this system has everything I want and nothing I don’t. And the system isn’t even broken in yet. Wonderful times ahead.

I’d like to give Mike Bovaird of Suncoast Audio one more nod of appreciation. The man has the patience of Job. I’d not been able to deal with the network issues, assemble, and set up this system without him. Thank you once again, buddy. I’ll post this then attempt to get some pics. Stand by...

Here are some pics of my system and listening room. Oops! I guess not. Give me a couple minutes/hours, LOL.

You’ll notice some mild room treatment with the acoustic panels on stands and on the walls of the music and recording area. The hanging sheets serve a dual purpose...they hold heat from the stove and they help with acoustics.

I have a question...How do you maximize the "typewriter"? When I was typing a post I accidentally touched something and it minimized the typewriter. How do I maximize it?

    Hi,

    As far as the pics

    (1) select third icon from the last (square with curved sides)
    (2) pop up window appears
    (3) choose from "computer" or "URL" (in top area)

    Computer file

    (4) for computer file select choose file (your photo)
    (5) under that is "upload file" - select it

    URL

    (4) enter URL address
    (5) go to bottom and select "ok"

I’m in the process of having numerous eye operations so my font on my iPad is supersized and the typewriter takes up half the screen. On my iPad I go to “settings” and then “Display and Brightness” and go down to “Text Size” and drag the bar to your desired size. Thanks for sharing the pictures, Tom. And again, congrats.

A very nice system you have put together, Pass and Harbeth is a symbiotic combination. I’m sure it was worth the wait.

Many hours of listening pleasure with your new system!

Thanks for the kind words, Sean. It's been so long since I had any kind of high end audio (late '70s). I've really missed it.

This is such a sweet sounding system. I had totally forgotten how good a truly good system sounds. Truth be told, I'd probably been just as satisfied with any number of systems. But this is the one I picked for me. Good job, "Me". Ha, ha!

Tom, I’m glad to hear your new gear is bringing joy to your home already.

How true; I often think how there’s always a variety of system configurations that will more than get us where we need or want to be. But that shouldn’t necessarily take away from the process and joy of making it our own.

    Re: Incoming!

Ya know, after having a chance to check it out for myself, IMHO, the heat issue with Pass and similarly designed (class A/AB SS amps) and constructed amps is waaaaaayyyyyyyy overstated. Maybe it's because I'm from Iowa, I don't know? Perhaps if I lived in Phoenix in the summer or maybe Needles or Death Valley or Tampa?? But when I lay my hand on the heat sinks of my INT 250 it reminds me of a warm summer day. I placed a room thermometer on the heat sink of my INT 250 and it registered 94 degrees. That's a nice day where there is low humidity. Maybe not so nice in Iowa with the humidity but we're not talking about humidity anyway. The operating temps of most well built class A/AB amps is certainly not a deal breaker to me. But, different strokes... Most tube amps put out far more heat. My tube guitar amps got hot. Not just warm. Hot! You couldn't even begin to place your hand on the tubes of most tube amps, especially when they're really cooking.

Anyway, I just thought I might set some things straight about the INT 250 and it's operating temp. I don't live in a state where summer temps often go north of 100 degrees. Iowa temps can certainly go above 100 degrees. But just perhaps a couple times each summer. Maybe if it did I'd feel differently. But I really doubt it. The operating temp of a Pass INT 250 for me is so low as to be irrelevant. It's just not a factor. But, like I said above...different strokes... My 2 cents.
