Buying On-Line Experiences

I am doing some remodeling at home and that includes replacing old electrical switches and outlets.
I made a list of the items that I needed and was hoping to go to my local hardware store to get them.
Home Depot offered the option of placing my order on line for pick up at my local store. I liked that since I could start working on it today.
But when I tried that route I found that quite a few items that I wanted were not available at the local store and had to be shipped to my home in about 10 days.
Then I tried Amazon. They had all items that I wanted except one. They could deliver what they had tomorrow. Free shipping (prime).
The one item that Amazon did not have would take about a week. So I decided to order online from HD to pick up today.
I had assumed that all my money was going to go to HD. Instead, Amazon ended up with the bulk of the order.
I bet my story is being experienced by many others out there. I better buy more Amazon stock!

No doubt Amazon is a juggernaut but Walmart is competing nicely. I try and shop locally when I can but it’s pretty darn convenient to click a few buttons and have it show up in a day or so.

A week to 10 days seems like forever now, ugh.

An update:
My Order from HD was supposed to be ready for me to pick up today (in stock item). HD was going to text me/email me when order was ready for pick up.

I kept checking order status until 30 mins from store closing time. I decided to go to the store anyway. Went directly to customer service area. Presented my ID and... my order was not ready. Aside from the person taking care of me, there were two other folks there seemingly doing nothing.

So one of those guys went to fetch my order. Came back with the wrong item. (Good thing I checked). The fellow had to go back to get the correct item. (He claimed that first item was in wrong location).

Anyway, I saved no time whatsoever. Some B&M companies got a lot to learn about handling on-line purchases.
