So far so good Mike. Snow is in the forecast for Thursday, which is a good thing. 6390 acres and rising, 730 personnel, 3 heavy lift choppers and 2 DC-10’s are keeping things away from our house. Fingers crossed.

Re: What did you do this weekend
Watched my Oklahoma State Cowboys get beat by Texas Tech and tried to resolve a high frequency ground loop for my son that he has with his just purchased PS Audio M700 monoblocks. I found the issue but he will need to use a galvanic isolation usb device like an Intona or ifi iGalavanic 3.0 or cheater plugs with the amps. Either one will fix the issue.
Then played with my new Deerhound all weekend. My Gear- Mains System-Pass X250 amp, BAT VK-51se preamp, Luxman DA-06 DAC, Magnepan 1.6's, Thorens TD-145 TT, Dual Martin Logan Subs, Vintage Luxman T-110 Tuner, Cables-WW Platinum 7 USB, Cardas Parsec XLR, AQ Columbia DBS 72v XLR, Belden 8402 XLR.

Re: What did you do this weekend
Pulled a transformer and Control4 dimmer switch for cabinet lighting that was connected to one of my audio circuits in the dedicated sub panel and relocated it on the other side of the wall in my workout room where it now feeds into the main panel.
All that I have done for power and grounding, I knew this problem still lingered then finally a few weeks ago I figured out a way to run and hide the cable and get it the “F” out of there. Something that took 30 minutes was left undone for a couple of years because it took me that long to figure out how to move it.
Anyone not aware, Control4 is a full home automation system I put in years ago. In my music room there are three light switches, main ceiling and two for cabinet lights. The switches are smart and the main switch controls all Iights as a theme or I can change the lights from my phone, iPad or computer.
How things opened up even more, I have no idea other than the importance of good clean power. Just shows you can never be done in this endless hobby.

Re: What did you do this weekend
Dug a monster hole through clay to plant a 15-gallon Hachiya persimmon tree. Hit hardpan at about 3.5'. A heavy spud bar just bounced off of it. Same for an electric jackhammer. Whipped my butt good and trashed my right shoulder. I hurt in places I did not know I had.
Just for fun I also planted 5 1-gallon plants and added a couple of miles to my season total of 104 miles.
Today I donate blood. I wanted to hold off until the weather changes and I stop swimming because donating tires me out more than it used to. But they called twice begging for a pediatric donation. Tugged my heartstrings so in I go.

Re: What did you do this weekend
October 5th I spent the day auditioning 7 different amps at Suncoast Audio. Had the time of my life. Both Mikes were wonderful. Mike B. even took me out and fed me a wonderful lunch. It took me the entire day to decide on an amp because they ALL sounded sublime. What a high?!! Out of a Simaudio 340xi, Naim Supernait 3, VAC 170i, Luxman 509x, Pass int 60, Hegel H390, and Gryphon Diablo 300, I picked the D300. The Pass int 60 was a very close second. I was surprised at how great it sounded. Same with the NAIM Supernait 3 and Hegel H390. Oh yeah, and the VAC 170i and Luxman 509x...see what I mean? They all just sounded soooooo good. But, man, was it fun?! Wonderful experience. Thanks so much Mike.

Re: What did you do this weekend
Well, bit of a twist is what I'm doing this weekend, rather than done. The Suncoast Audio Society (SAS) is having our monthly meet in Gulfport/St Petersburg. On deck is a live music performance by cellist Carlos Audi (Brazil) and Adam Booher on piano (using the hosts Steinway baby grand).
The performance will be digitally and analog (reel>reel) recorded. https://www.meetup.com/Suncoast-Audi...nts/264261763/
Afterwards, we will play back the recordings on hosts dedicated audio room/system downstairs - Einstein/Hegel/Hot-rodded Quad ESL 63/Gradient dipole subwoofers.
Should be fun.
cheers,
AJ

Re: What did you do this weekend
Oh boy...not sure I can put it into words. But here goes...crystal clear, cleeeeean, natural, perfectly balanced frequency spectrum, just the right mix of openness vs warmness; tight, focused, clean bass, just the right amount of bass, biiiiiiiig, deep, sound stage, all instruments and vocals are very discrete across the sound stage, you can close your eyes and know exactly where each musician is standing on the stage, D300 has everything you want/need and nothing you don't. Chocolate ice cream with strawberries. There. How's that?

Re: What did you do this weekend
Good and bad. Because of it's inherent "enhancement", there was more distortion and some kind of "rumble" that gave a "fullness" to the sound.
If you are sitting away (mid-far field) from the musicians like the audience (the mics must be placed nearfield of the instruments), that low frequency spectrum sounds more natural, because of a) the room loading and b) the HF losses due to air/reflected absortion vs distance. So the tape has a sort of auto EQ that is perceptually pleasing. But as you move up the spectrum, you lose detail. The sublty of the instruments is lost, especially the cello as the bow moves across the strings. It's more of a homogenous mush.
The digital OTOH sound more "lean"/"sterile", again, due to the nearfield placement of the mics and lack of LF boost/distortion to "warm" the sound. The mid>HF sounds far more defined, you can hear every subtle variation of the strings, etc.
So there's good/bad with either. Btw, the reason why the mics must be near, is that they don't "hear" the way 2 ears/brain do.

I upgraded the power supply on my Gigafoil v4 to a Weiss PSU 102. It’s very nice step up. But with the new model, you’re looking at $2000 before even investing in a SOTA linear power supply.
