    Re: Fyne Audio at RMAF

I met the Scot at RMAF, a good guy and what appears to be a quality product and what I believe are reasonable prices.

They do have an extensive line, and wonder sometimes if is too much from the sense of cost when supporting multiple lines, but don’t confuse this with value.

They sounded very good. Poor quality pictures, sorry.

Yup, they seem to have appeared out of nowhere with a broad range of well designed and built speakers. Then again, when essentially same team was with Tannoy, Tannoy had entry level speakers all the way to the Gold Reference (Westminster, etc) models.

As long as Fyne Audio is able to utilise the profits from the other speaker ranges to be able to offer the F1 range at a relatively sane price, I am sure its a win-win for all.

Pity the F1-10 or F1-12 was not on show though.

    Re: Fyne Audio at RMAF

    Copied from my RMAF review-

Another room that sounded good was the Fyne Audio room and their 702 speakers ($9Kpr). They are just being released in the US and they are looking for dealers. These are the guys that broke away from Tannoy. Great guys to talk to with their Scottish accents and sense of humor. The speaks use similar tech to Tannoy but do things that they could not do at Tannoy. The speakers had no hours on them on day 1 and they sounded just ok. They stated the speakers need 300 hours of breakin. So we came back for a listen on day 2 since the speakers had been running constantly for over 24 hours. What a difference a day makes. The sound stage was huge and the sweet spot was very wide. Off axis listening sounded like you were sitting in the center. They were musical, textured and layered with deep tight bass. No fatigue at all. Interestingly they had them hooked up to a Rega integrated amp and an oppo player. I would have loved to hear them with much better gear and fully broken in. These could be my next pair of speakers. The fit and finish was top notch.
My Gear- Mains System-Pass X250 amp, BAT VK-51se preamp, Luxman DA-06 DAC, Magnepan 1.6's, Thorens TD-145 TT, Dual Martin Logan Subs, Vintage Luxman T-110 Tuner, Cables-WW Platinum 7 USB, Cardas Parsec XLR, AQ Columbia DBS 72v XLR, Belden 8402 XLR.

I love what they're doing, but why the heck would they go to a show with unbroken-in speakers? With a very limited window to make a splash, and when everything has to gel, that makes no sense. That's almost worse than a static display.

I asked them the same question. They said that these were the first production model. I would also felt that they should have used better electronics.

    Timing is everything.

The Canadian and US distributors were just getting there containers. RMAF was just a little too early this year to have everything properly fall in place I would guess.

The same thing happened to me at the Montreal show with Magico M2's. I think they arrived the day before we packed up for the show. Shit happens.
