    Wow, that kinda sucks!

Mine seems to work fine, unhappy to know if it doesn’t it may not repairable. That said, there are a lot of knowledgeable folks I know who have a knack for making things like this work.

For all those owners out there: may your RCM outlive you.

Degritter is a much better machine and company at half the price. Tough to compete with that.

Re: KL Audio calls it quits on RCM’s

To expand on the "better". I had one new album which had so much noise I should have returned it but never did, totally unlistenable. I tried cleaning it 10x with the KL with no improvement. One heavy clean with the Degritter and it was listenable again. Also, when I take new vinyl from the wrapper and clean it there is a more noticeable change with the Degritter. I think the biggest fault of the KL is no filtering system. I was shocked at the sludge in my KL tank when I cleaned it for the first time. It's a huge pain to clean properly. The Degritter is extremely well thought out from top to bottom. With the Removable water tank and easy to access/clean filter the operation and maintenance is completely painless. The unit runs on firmware which can be updated from the built in SD slot. Every aspect of the machine can be tweaked in firmware and from the time mine shipped until the time it arrived there was already a new version which improved the cleaning/drying performance. It's also a LOT quieter than the KL on the clean cycle.

Re: KL Audio calls it quits on RCM’s

Interesting thoughts of an owner on audiogon. The downsides is of interest to me - who wants to lose the leading edge of music?

As for sonic results, like any record cleaner it depends on the shape of the record and the nature of it's noise. Obviously this machine won't get rid of pops and ticks caused by actual damage to the record, only if it's caused by debris that can be scoured out. Overall I'd say I hear an appreciable difference with every record after cleaning - smoother, less hash, somewhat less pops and ticks. There have been the occasional jaw-dropping difference. One record went from sounding like it had been taken directly from a trash compactor - hard to even hear the music through the noise - to sounding almost brand new after a wash in the Degritter. I hadn't thought such a thing possible until I heard it.

Downsides? Sometimes I'm not sure I prefer the sound of the washed record to the unwashed record. It can sometimes make a record sound in a way a bit more CD-like than vinyl. Can sometimes seem to lose a little bit of life/air/leading edge after a wash.

Wow, that seems to fly right in the face of logic ? more CD 'like' than vinyl ? interesting, I can honestly say I've never had that experience
    Cheers ! …. Dave
