    Re: Magnepan LRS loudspeaker Review

I heard a set of these today, driven by an Aleph 5 Class A amp and a tube preamp.

The guy also has a set of Spendor and building a set of infinite baffle from a Pass design.

The little Maggies are surprisingly good and I was shocked when I heard how affordable they were. It makes you want to get a set just for fun. I was not sitting in an ideal spot so I won't give a full review. They are all ribbon drivers.

I was at the Schiitr yesterday picking some new toyz and they had LRSes in their main sound room driven by Aegirs strapped in mono. sublime.

LRSes are the audiophile equivalent of the pet rock.

who cares what they cost, everyone can and should have a pair, just because... (FWIW, I have pair on order).

Rob, did they use a subwoofer? Is one necessary?

The system I heard was using an Outlaw sub crossed at 40Hz. I suspect you could get away without one since crossed so low but I didn't get to hear them without to say for sure.
