Re: The Audiohpile Ear
One of the biggest improvements I ever had in my room was years ago when I placed Granite Slabs between my floor and a pair of Mirage M-970s to isolate them from the carpet and floor.

Re: The Audiohpile Ear
Makes perfect sense. Considering the tiny fraction of an inch a tweeter moves, the vibration of a cabinet is sometimes magnitudes greater from what I understand. Properly draining the vibration of a speaker cabinet or isolating the speaker from external vibrations goes a long way towards a more coherent sound and increased sense of image focus. Even the rather inert cabinets of some speakers like Wilson, Magico and others typically benefit from being properly spiked and coupled to the floor. The supplied casters on Wilson for example are very handy for rolling the speakers around during setup but they sound noticeably better when positioned in final place and spiked.

Re: The Audiohpile Ear
I’ve never used any tweaks with my Wilson speakers so can’t comment. I had faith in the engineering team at Wilson to supply me a speaker that would not rely on some “other brand” which took no active participation in the R&D phase of a Wilson speaker. Hence total satisfaction with their performance with all the factory included isolation/vibration draining parts, aka “Wilson Spikes”.

Re: The Audiohpile Ear
I'm with Octopus on this. The preponderance of the evidence suggests that the differences we think we hear mostly disappear when we limit ourselves to auditory input.
I often don't hear a difference when someone swaps a non-speaker component and starts telling me how much better it sounds. It's liberating when you realize the odds are you will almost always be right if you sense it doesn't *sound* different. It is overwhelmingly likely they are the ones admiring the emperor's clothes, due to bling, financial interest, purchase rationalization, or some other bias. No difference deserves to be the null hypothesis. Of course believing that can lead to its own analysis and listening bias, hence the rabid, evangelizing objectivist.
But isolated auditory isn't typically how we listen at home, so other considerations should be allowed, and incorporated in the purchase decision. Crooked timber, as Kant said.
