Vacation/Going out town; when do you personally decide to power down/unplug your gear?
With the summer almost official here and many of us going out of town. Or when many just travel for extended periods away from your system.
Whats everyone personal rule of thumb for powering down/unplugging your gear?
Unplug from the wall to be sure? Regardless of surge protection being used?

Unplug from the wall.
Takes away any worries about thunderstorms. Only disadvantage is that the DAC has to go again through its lenghty warm up cycle, but so be it.
Also, cover tube gear with blanket, towel or the like. Why should it gather more dust than necessary?Simaudio Moon Neo 260 DT CD Transport / MIT SL-Matrix Plus AES/EBU digital cable / Schiit Yggdrasil Analog 2 DAC / Octave HP 700 preamp / Octave RE 320 stereo amp with Super Black Box / Reference 3A Reflector monitors on Sound Anchors Signature Stands / dual JL Audio Fathom 112 v2 subwoofers on ASC SubTraps / ZenWave Audio D4 and SMSG cables / Acoustic treatment: tube traps, Tri-panels, window plugs, ceiling diffusers (all ASC), large absorbing panels (Acoustics First), diverse carpets chosen for acoustic properties: wool, polypropylene basket-weave

My system is on a separate circuit. I do throw the breaker. I also unplug the TV's and cable boxes.

Yep! I routinely unplug my entire system when/if we have storms coming through the area. Don’t forget to unplug your modems/routers etc. Everything means any and all wiring going into your system from outside the house. Not just power.

Re: Vacation/Going out town; when do you personally decide to power down/unplug your gear?
If I'm going to be out of town, I always unplug my system. I have surge protection for the entire home; however, I don't like to take chances with storms in FL.

Re: Vacation/Going out town; when do you personally decide to power down/unplug your gear?
I unplug everything. Easy fix. Why risk the damage even with protection. I even tell our house sitter that the fancy system is broken that way there is no incentive to try and turn it on if friends come over.

I'm seriously thinking about coming out with a set of audiophile worry beads. There will be one bead for each audiophile angst. The only problem is the worry beads will be quite lengthy.

Re: Vacation/Going out town; when do you personally decide to power down/unplug your gear?
I travel a lot for work, and when away everything gets powered down and then unplugged from the wall on the main system.
Usually takes a day of music playing to get everything back to sounding like it should, but not taking any chances with possible damage while away.Main System:

Re: Vacation/Going out town; when do you personally decide to power down/unplug your gear?
We do the same as most here. Power down everything and unplug, but the unplug portion is more for what Edward was getting at. This is based mainly on the fact that one time when we came back it was obvious the person house sitting (we always have someone actually living in the house when we are gone) decided it was fun to play around with the system. Yes, they can always plug it back in, but at least they have to figure out why the system won't power up.
