It sounded very good. Excellent in fact. I went into this room three times for a listen and always came away impressed. But frankly, I feel the same when I listen to TW Acoustics, AF0/1/2/3, Continuum, Acoustic Signature, SME, Basis, Brinkmann, Bergman and many others. They are all excellent. Excellent. Excellent.

But frankly, over the past 5 years, the only table that makes me sit back and really take notice, one that sounds special to me, one that engages me the most is the one I own: the Kronos Pro. I don’t talk about it much because in the era of 600 pound, $350,000 turntables, everyone seems focused on the heaviest, biggest, most expensive. But for me, the Kronos Pro really sounds unique and special. It’s a cut above the rest sonically. I know there are self-proclaimed experts out there who feel some honking 400 pound table is the best and I’m sure it’s excellent, but when I really LISTEN, the Kronos Pro, to my ears, is special. It might be fair to say I prefer the sound of a suspended table, as I surely love the Avid Acutus as well. But for me, the Kronos is so much more than just a suspended turntable. There is something special to what the counter-rotating tables do eliminating torsional forces. Others I’m sure think it’s voodoo. I don’t.

The Kronos Pro was one of the last, if not the last, products Harry Pearson ever reviewed. I love hearing Louis tell the story of visiting HP, setting up the table and then what happened when Harry first listened. HP asked Louis to put on a favorite record of his. Louis obliged. After 10 seconds HP was waving his arms and yelling at Louis, “I told you to put on XYZ.” Louis explained that’s what it was. HP sat and listened and proclaimed he had never heard his favorite album sound better. He was in disbelief.

    Re: SAT Turntable

I really like the simplicity and elegant design of the SAT table. Judging by the cost of SAT arms, I'm guessing $50k - $75k for the table.

Nobody knows. I grilled them at Munich and they were being very coy about an answer. I’m guessing 6 figures. The pictures don’t truly relate it’s size. It’s got quite a big footprint.

Thx Mike. The pictures don't quite tell the story on the size.

To your point, I would not be surprised if the price is six figures plus the arm. That would be a lot given that the drive system is a DD Technics (which is very good); but R&D costs for SAT should not be as significant. But then again, it is high end audio! ;-)

    SAT Turntable

I asked Louis to give me the story today in writing. Here’s what he said:

“The album was an original pressing of the RCA ... ROYAL BALLET ... ANSERMET ... SIDE 1... NUTCRACKER. Hp asked Joey to play HIS album ... which Joey did... but after 60 seconds of play, asked to lift up the cartridge and said ... "i said...MY record!!!" Joey took the record to show it to him... and recognizing it, hp asked to hear it again... After 5 minutes of listening, he asked to lift the cartridge again and went on to describe how the soundstage stability was as never before, how the timbres were correct, how the dynamics... etc.... He understood all of it with only a short listening... a true gifted listener.”

Do you have evidence of that? Michael has publicly documented he has paid for all the equipment in his system including taking out a loan to pay for the equipment. Part was paid with proceeds from his DVD. So again, do you have any evidence to the contrary?

For the record, SAT offers the least accommodation of any high end audio company.

    Re: SAT Turntable

Is it really an OEM Technics motor? Hmmm...

When I saw it and heard it 3-4 times at Munich, and they were being coy about the pricing (now I know why), I thought “$50K USD plus arm”. I guess I was way off the mark.

Let’s see, you could get a Kronos Pro with SCPS-1 and Kronos Phonostage and Lyra Atlas SL plus an MSB Select II pimped out and still have money left over for oh, I don’t know, a car?

    And yes, I’ve heard it...

But then again, I’m a guy who just bought an $85,000 phonostage for himself, so maybe I’ll just go over to the corner and hide a little.

If not don't mind me asking. What stage retails for that much? Not even VAC Statement or CH Precision is that much (to my knowledge).

Is it the Kronos phono stage?

it was only meant as a joke (see the smiley face) take a chill pill... or should have said free instead--LOL

imo: anyway when Fremer writes a great review and praise. it's a game changer for the manufacture!
