EMM Labs - NS1 Network Streamer

Just ordered one. They started shipping 2 days ago from the factory. Now I need to find a good optilink cable. There is a Aural Symphonics cable that they recommend, but it’s $5,500. That is not happening.

It's actually $2,500 (seems to have gone up from $2k or so a couple of years ago when I purchased mine) and well worth it when used between the EMM Labs TX2 to the EMM Labs DA2 versus the included EMM Labs ST Cable. Couldn't say whether it makes sense on the streamer.

May have a look of Lifatec.
I am using one of their glass fiber toslink cables
They gor ST plugs and can tailor-make for customers.

Description reads "three-cable set," which I think is the 6-channel model for multichannel music.

You're looking at the wrong product. EMM Labs products used to require a set of cables for data and clock. That is no longer the case with the current generation. The product you want is:

EMM Labs TX2 SE|DA2 V2| Ayre KX-R Twenty | D'Agostino Momentum M400 | Focal Maestro Utopia III | MIT Oracle MA | VH Audio | Shunyata King Cobra CX | Shunyata Everest | Harmonic Resolution Systems | CAD Ground Control

I took Bar81's advice and bought the Aural Symphonics less than 2 years ago perhaps at around US$1,700. Well worth the money!

A pity that EMMlabs have used a "smaller" box then the DA2 for instance.

That's because the NS1 streamer isn't the companion to the DA2. This is:

What I do find odd is that there’s no usb out. If you have the cd/sacd player, you’ll already use the only available optilink. I wonder why.

It's a poorly designed component for anyone with a TX2, which is only 50 people so why would EMM Labs care. I flagged the concern to EMM Labs months ago but they ignored me.

I don’t spin enough discs to have a CD player. I used my oppo 105 to rip all my SACDs to dsf, and I find myself downloading most new releases vs physical discs.

He’s saying originally the tx2 was designed to go with the DA2. The ns1 was just released a week ago.

I know that, just notifying that the NS1 is in a much smaller enclosure, so not so nice to add to a system with TX2 and DA2. It is Bar81 who is feeding the confusion

Still disagree with your opinion, DA2 can be a great standalone DAC, without the TX2, what is wrong with adding a newly designed streamer in the same type of enclosure..

form follows function and my guess is NS1 doesn’t need a large enclosure

DA2 is fantastic on its own. The TX2 is a very expensive stand alone disc spinner. Also, I think most of us with this level of DAC are transitioning away from physical media. The world of streaming, and high res files is just so easy in comparison

100 hours in, everything is sitting on iso pucks. It sounds spectacular. The air between every sound is outstanding. N10 can’t compare.

It's a great piece of gear. I haven't had as much time as I'd like to listen to it, and heading on vacation this week. I have it connected with the EMM Link.

From a interface perspective, the mConnect software that can be used for free is garbage. It's a complete necessity to have Roon, so anyone looking at this should be prepared for that expense.

In the couple of listening sessions I've had, I think it sounds better than my N10 did connected to the DA2. When using the N10, I always noticed significant differences between redbook through DSD. The NS1 seems to flatten that curve, and even the lowest resolution files I have sound spectacular. Better than they sounded on the N10.

It's been playing pretty much constantly since I brought it home, other than a few hours when I installed a new network switch in my listening room. Time will tell.. but so far it's great.

Re: EMM Labs - NS1 Network Streamer

Right on ... that seems to be the EMM way ... in direct comparison to the Esoteric , which is three times the price , the EMM playback is always pleasing ... great soundstage , very immersive , almost everything is listenable , and at a very high level ... as where the Esoteric , with certain media sounds fantastic , but never as consistently pleasurable as the EMM !

I look forward to listening to the NS1 , which I will be using with a similar set up as yours ... all Bryston front end and amplifiers ...

Hi Phishphan, can you share your experience with the NS1 so far? I am sending my DA2 to EMM for upgrade, and planning to use the NS1. Would be interested especially to know how you configure the NS1 (switches etc), and sound quality. Thanks in advance!
