    New Headphones

Just picked up a pair of HiFiMan HE-560 phones, for half price, from a friend who bought them and never used them. I had been toying with getting a new headphone amp because I'm still a big fan of my Sennheiser HD-600's. When this deal fell into my lap, I figured what the heck. If nothing else, I'll have 2 sets of headphones to enjoy. Anybody else have these phones or anything in the HiFiMan arsenal?

    Re: New Headphones

I heard several Hifiman at Axpona one year, I really like them but don't use headphones a lot. Last summer they ran a sale and I bought a set of.... I think they are called Edition S, not very expensive and easy to drive, just to have a set of Hifiman. I do use them on occasion. This particular model is more neutral and bass definition than my Senn's but the Senn's have a larger sound stage, and some may prefer the Senn's richer bass. Both are good, matter of taste.

I really like Audeze as well, their new Mobius wireless are tempting.

I had many choices and it was a tough decision. I was seriously considering Audeze LCD-2 and even getting another Sennheiser in the HD-660S. When I mentioned my search to my friend, he threw the HiFiMan's at me. They should arrive today.

I have three Hifiman headphones - the HE-500, the Sundara and the Massdrop version 4xx. The 4xx is a very nice headphone for under $200.00 but the Sundara is my favorite of the 3.

I also have the HD660S and at first listen wasn't too crazy about them but have come to like them more and more as I use them - either the headphones are breaking in or my ears are.

It's interesting that on first listen last night, I had to move the volume control on my Musical Fidelity XCan V3 up 12 dB to get the same volume as through my Sennheiser's. I'm liking what I'm hearing so far. Piano is especially pleasing and natural. I've always loved the fit of my Senns., and never found any others that come close in comfort, until now.

I have two HE-560s. First purchased a HE-560, then was toying around thinking whether to try a HD-800 moving the HE-560 to the office but jumped on a deal and now have one for home and one for the office.

Curious, how are you finding the HE-560s compared to your HD-600s?

Oh yeah, as for amps, currently driving one with a JDS Atom and the other Matrix HPA-3B. Waiting to jump on a Mass X THX AAA 789 and HeadAmp GS-X Mini (or maybe something from Neurochrome).

I was worried about the weight of the He-560's being that I've always found the HD-600's to be so light, but the 4 ounce different is almost neglishable. The HD-600's are my oldest component in my system, so you can tell that I've liked them a long time and really never thought about replacing them. The HE-560's are very airy with nice tight bass and you can distinctively hear the different instruments spread across the soundstage. I listened to Schubert's 5th symphony last night as my first classical listen with the new phones and loved the presentation. Then Beethoven's 2nd piano concerto.........Goosebumps for sure.
