    MAGICO
    A1
Reference Quality 2-Way Bookshelf Loudspeaker System
HAYWARD, CA (USA) – May 1, 2019 – Building on the tremendous success of the A3, Magico is proud to expand the A-Series with the introduction of the new A1 bookshelf loudspeaker -- a fully braced aluminum enclosure, beryllium dome tweeter, carbon Nanographene cone, and our renowned elliptical crossover. The A1 represents an unprecedented value in its price category.
    Aircraft Grade Aluminum Enclosure
The A1 enclosure is constructed using 3⁄8” thick 6061 T6 aircraft grade aluminum, similar to the enclosure developed for the Q1 and is available in an elegant brushed-aluminum, black anodized finish. An innovative internal bracing technique along with the most advanced damping materials makes the sealed enclosure incredibly rigid and free of unwanted mechanical resonances. The complete enclosure design of the A1 is evaluated in simulation using the latest FEA software along with physical testing to meet the uncompromising requirements of Magico for optimized enclosure rigidity, stability and to ensure benchmark acoustical standards.

    High Frequency Driver
Featuring the same tweeter as the full range A3, the A1 utilizes a pure Beryllium-diaphragm with an optimized 28-mm dome based on the fundamental design platform and geometry of our reference M- Series tweeter. The customized neodymium motor system is encased in an improved back chamber with our latest generation damping materials that facilitate ultra-low distortion, higher power handling, massive dynamic capabilities, and extended linear voice coil movement.
    Mid-Bass Driver
The newly developed 6.5-inch mid-bass driver features a Multi-Wall carbon fiber cone with a layer of XG Nanographene, providing optimal stiffness to weight ratio and an ideal damping factor. The driver frame has been designed, simulated and tested for the optimal combination of stiffness and damping. Minimum acoustical impact is achieved through reducing vibration modes while maximizing air flow. The motor system incorporates extra-large magnets to ensure a stabilized magnetic field in the 39- mm pure titanium voice coil. The A1 mid-bass driver is optimized for minimal music related distortions in its bandpass, in both the frequency and time domains using state of the art finite element analysis simulation of acoustical, mechanical, electromagnetic and thermal behavior.
    Crossover
The drivers in the A1 are acoustically integrated using Magico’s proprietary Elliptical Symmetry Crossover topology that utilizes state-of-the-art components from Mundorf of Germany. Re: Magico announces A1, ACC, ASUB

I wonder if the A1 plus A sub would sound better or just different than the A3 without sub. We don't know the frequency response specifications, but I imagine the A Sub goes higher with the smaller 10" driver than do the Q and S Subs. And perhaps the A1 goes lower than did the Mini 2. Alon Wolf specifically did not recommend that I get the Q sub with my Mini 2 but instead suggested that the Q3 would sound better than their monitor plus sub combination. Driver integration and coherence were mentioned and they recommended their Q sub with three way speakers, not two way speakers. It is interesting that they now seem to suggest that one of their two way monitors can be successfully used with one of their subs. People have been mating two way stand mounted monitors with subs successfully for a long time.

Given the announcement with the ACC, it seems that this monitor and sub may be aimed at the home theater market as much as at the 2 ch audio market.

    A-Sub specification is 20 Hz.

I'm surprised no mention of an A1 stand for those who don't have a bookshelf to sit it on.

Yes, the stand remains an interesting question. There was so much attention paid to both the Mini and the Q1 stands which were integral to the designs of those speakers.

I am curious about how high the A sub goes and how low the A1 goes to get some sense of integration. If there is a debut of these in Munich, perhaps they will provide fuller specifications at that time.

I don’t think so? M6’s, M3’s, M2’s will be everywhere from what I understand. It’s a four day audio orgy.

Ha! Every audiophile needs to make the pilgrimage at least once. Yes, the flight is long and sucks. But after a day, you’re good to go. To say it’s overwhelming is an understatement. But you get really good and biggish rooms and manufacturers bringing their best and usually their entire company.

Plus, you get to see what a real German breakfast looks like. I saw Kouppis eat it. I was in a coma just watching.

Plus, you get to see what a real German breakfast looks like. I saw Kouppis eat it. I was in a coma just watching.

Quite a strong reaction to a Weißwurst though Magico announces A1, ACC, ASUB.

Re: Magico announces A1, ACC, ASUB

I would love to see the sales number for the ASub. I just have a hard time believing a 10" 500wpc $6500 sub is going to have much of market. I get the monitors for a under 10k speaker and small room application and using a matched center channel. I just can't get my little head around the Asub.. There are so many great subs in the $2k and under market. I guess if you just have to have the matching cabinets you have to have one.
    Speakers: Magico S3 (23')
    Integrated:Gryphon Diablo 300 plus DAC
    Streamer: HiFi Rose RS150b
    CD/DVD: Oppo 205
    Cables: Cardas-Shunyata-AudioQuest-Supra
Roon Core: sonicTransporter i7 powered with HDPlex 200w linear PS, running AudioLinux for Roon--Tidal and Qobuz with iPad Pro

Time is just a tool humans created to measure movement and record events

The sub market is a tough one. Lots of options. But system matching is also key. But yes, sub market is crowded.

If it’s 25% of the Q15 sub then it will out perform anything in that price range. But until it’s heard - who knows?
