Re: The MOST ICONIC Loudspeaker of ALL TIME - JBL L100 Classic Review

Even though I owned a original pair I sure wouldn't call them "the most" iconic speaker.

Dan - what’s funny, is that HiFi News just reviewed this speaker (May issue) and it got the lowest rating of any product I’ve ever seen them review.

I have to look that up. Maybe they heard what I heard.
I auditioned them for about an hour, last month.
    I hated them.

The MOST ICONIC Loudspeaker of ALL TIME - JBL L100 Classic Review

It’s been too long for me to recall the sound.

I will say I like appearance of the grill cloth and the stands and the comment they are the same price today as they were in 1970 relatively speaking.

Here’s two pictures of Maxells advert.

As far as the most iconic speaker goes, I’m thinking Quad ESL-63, Sonus Faber Stradivari and Revel Salon 2, to name a few.

Re: The MOST ICONIC Loudspeaker of ALL TIME - JBL L100 Classic Review

I would say iconic in that the JBL L100 is immediately recognizable by nearly everyone who was into audio systems in the 70's and 80's. There's no denying the L100 was a very popular speaker in its day.

I found the video rather humorous, especially when the OP said he drives his new L100 Classic speakers with a $250.00 Crown amp. I think there's some advances to be had there. At any rate, I haven't heard the L100 Classic but I would enjoy the experience if for nothing more than nostalgia. I owned a pair of JBL L100's back in the day and played the hell out of them before ultimately giving them to my brother.

I read the review and it's pretty much what I thought of them, though the reviewer is as diplomatic as could be for what isn't a great overall review.

I owned DQ-10s, Large Advents, and stacked Large Advents in their day. Does that make me iconic? I own Quad ESL-2805s now.

Ones I owned and loved were the Acoustic Research AR9s.

Re: The MOST ICONIC Loudspeaker of ALL TIME - JBL L100 Classic Review

Iconic they may and I’ve been subjected to listening to Kloss creations on numerous occasions by my friend for example but by today’s standards, they are extremely colored and incapable of reproducing the same illusion of “being there” like the modern speakers. At least to my ears. Who wants to swap their speakers for a pair of iconic speakers?

Quad ESL, maybe I could live with a pair of those but I’d prefer not to.

DIY K-Horns were the rage when I was in college.....about 1970, then Bose 901's in the mid-70's.

    owned both.

    Iconic, if not great loudspeakers.
