Re: Put together a dream $12,000 system for me...

I’m just getting a hotel room setup for myself, as I need to live out of a hotel for the next six months for a new project:

    - Lyngdorf TDAI 2170 amp with room correction, as I cannot change the listening space
    - Dynaudio Evoke 10, very good and very capable (did a demo last week)
    - Aurender N100H for stored music and MQA enabled streaming

Total is about 6500,- + cables & interconnects.

Sounds like a headphone setup. With the noise, constant interruption of hotel staff not to mention them going through you're room while they clean it, while they prop you're door open go headphones its safer.

I would put everything into the speakers...and then make sure you maximize your power, room correction (Dirac), and get the best DAC available (ESS Sabre 9038 PRO).

    Revel F228Be - $10,000
    MiniDSP DDRC22D DiracLive room correction - $725
    Crown XLS 1002 215W x 2 Power Amplifier - $339
    Audio-GD NFB-28.38 DAC (ESS SABRE 9038 PRO) - $808

    Total: $11,847

I have this 15 year old pair of VA beethovens I decided to upgrade, first the kef r107/2, then the revel f52 then the salon1 then the salon 2 then the VA strauss finally the usher be-20 dmd. My Beethovens were more musical than the first 5 speakers I tried and I think I really got lucky with the Ushers because I didn't take the time and money to build a system around any 1 pair of speakers. I think if the budget is $12k now and regular upgrades down the road spending it all on speakers could work, but I would expect the system listed above to measure perfect and take the listener nowhere.

A system should be balanced in regard to performance as it's only as good as its weakest link.

Now with that being said, I promote getting the best source possible. Why? Because if the detail doesn't come from the source, nothing, not anything, will allow you to hear that lost detail down stream from the source.

You put a $500.00 DAC on front of a $10k set of speakers you'll hear that $500 reproduced about as good as it can but you've wasted about $9k.
