thinking about this a bit more. this makes magico closer to pricing on yg right? the new hailey and the s5 mk2 would make for a good shoot out. and who needs to bench press when you have to move those speakers around

Not defending high-end prices, but actually Magico S series is still a "bargain" (can't say that about the M).
Lest see, an S5; full aluminum, 2X10”, 1X6” CF graphene, under-hang neodymium motor system, a diamond coated Be tweeter for $42K.
Or; a new Borresen two way form MDF for ~$37K.
Or maybe a Wilson Alexia from phenolic with less driver surface (1X10” and 1X8”), with cheeeeeeeeap paper cone and motors drivers for $60K.
Or maybe a YG , Sonia from Aluminum, with similar driver complement for over $100K.

Re: Magico S Model Price Increases

Magico is based in the Bay Area of California, which is one of the highest cost of living areas in the U.S. They assemble and test their speakers there, so between basic inflation, and their location, I can understand the price increase. I guess they could reduce costs by doing assembly and testing in Vietnam, but I prefer supporting local jobs. Even if it does cost a little more.

Re: Magico S Model Price Increases

Do any M3 owners here use S-sub?

I'm contemplating whether to buy an S-sub now before the price rise (today is the last day for placing dealer order at current price), or wait it out for Magico to do an A-sub and buy a pair of them instead. I'm using a dialed down SVS-SB13Ultra with my M3. Playing Rob Thomas - Something To Be last night and Track 1 - This Is How A Heart Breaks intro bass line was viscerally devastating, in a seriously good way. Which reminds me, I'd better check the 115 foot pound torque on the tie rods as they will be well and truly loosened up after that.

Magico builds their own cabinets in Hayward, CA from raw aluminum. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

There are also many videos out there showing the California factory in action.

Correct. Magico does not have the mammoth press necessary to make the extruded cabinets. They are sourced externally but I do not know if the source is domestic or foreign. When I toured the factory I was told the size of the press needed but I don't remember the size.

Like Dizzie, I was also provided information on this when I visited their factory/headquarters. I remember that Magico's extruded aluminum cabinets are sourced from a U.S. factory which has the mammoth press.

Ordered the day before the price rise. Arrived today. I was blindsided by the enormity of this thing, it's huge! Unfortunately it stays in its crate until I can source a C19 power cable.

YG acoustics, Wilson make particular model in specific price range vs. Magico creates entire seperate line. Their M line consider superior than S series. Have you or anyone had chance to compare YG's sonja 2.2 and 2.3 with Magico S and M series? 2.2's price is $76,800 and 2.3's $112,800. Magico M3 retail for $75,000 and M6 goes for $172,000. Can Magico S series truly be comparable in terms of built, sound quality?

If you think $63,800 is close to $75K, sure.

True, but it's not a fair comparison using an expensive premium paint finish on one speaker to narrow the price gap with another speaker when performance is what you're relating price too.

My comment pointed towards who looking to buy S7 with premium finish. For them price gap is so narrow. Magico increased S series prices for best reasons known to them but with price increase they didn't upgrade S7 model. So if people want to purchase S7 with premium finish they have no choice but to pay increased asking price. That's when M3 comes into picture.

The M3 and S7 are very different speakers in terms of what they are trying to achieve. The M6 would more logically be an upgrade of the S7 and the M3 an upgrade of the S5.

For sure. But an important consideration for customers would be choosing their speaker based on the size of their room. Even though premium finish S7 is approaching the price of M3, if you have a large listening space, S7 might be a better choice than M3 (despite the narrow price gap). If you have a small listening space, S7 would be the wrong choice. There is a cross-over point where the size of the room might suit both, in which case, you don't need to stretch the finances too much further to get an M. If you're correctly matching the speaker to the size of the room, you're more likely to be comparing S5Mk2 vs M3, S3Mk2 vs M2, and S7 vs M6. And these choices have ample separation on price.

Is there consensus as to what dimensions constitutes a small, large, and medium room size?

My wife (although she is a big fan of the hi fi) has been getting more and more frustrated with the boxes. About 8 Naim boxes, assorted others. I had trashed the boxes from my former speakers and subwoofer, and then my A3's arrived. I told her that the dealer has to replace the boxes on the old speakers in order to sell them, and will be charging me. And that the same will happen with the Magico boxes - when we move, and/or I sell them, I'd have to re-buy boxes. She is now OK with me keeping the boxes. I think she didn't fully realize that they actually are necessary when re-selling.

My dealer had a good attitude; the boxes can be replaced, marital bliss cannot. The replacement cost for the boxes is relatively low if the friction, inconvenience, etc., of having them around is relatively high!

You said it what I was trying to say. If I have large room, I would check out both speakers.

Re: Magico S Model Price Increases

I think that Magico bigger models can work in small rooms and vice versa (well, within reason).
It’s more about priorities and budget, so yes, if you can afford it, the M6 has it all, but if you can’t you will have to choose between the ultimate quality (M), or just “plain” pretty darn good quantity (S). Like I said before, on paper the S5 will be a much better value than anything the competition will have at 3X the cost. You can’t really say that on the M, it is more about the cost of diminishing returns, and how much one is willing/able to pay for it.

That's awesome! I can't quite imagine what it's like LIVING with so many hundreds of kilograms of speakers . . . but it must sure be fun to listen to! Might you share other photos of the room surroundings? I suspect that the Magicos dominate the room
