    Mike
I have been half following these devices on another site. Keep me posted on what you think.

I had mixed performance with Stillpoints and wondered how well these work. I hear they take a long time to settle in.

I just put them under the gear today. The equipment will be left on and Joe says it takes two weeks for them to break in. I asked why any break in was needed and was given a long technical explanation and a run down of the material science.

The numbers just mean height. Buy the ones that will just barely get your component off the shelf. Remember, they go under the chassis, not the feet.

Those prices are for each foot. So is your system sucking now? It’s supposed to take at least 10 days before your system stops sucking and you enter the promised land of “immersion.”

Re: Critical Mass Center Stage 2

I installed these in the MBL system room. Listened right away, heard a small, but noticeable difference. Then, didn’t listen for a week. I didn’t want my ears to get “adjusted” or accustomed to the difference. I wanted to listen only at specific times.

I then went back, System is playing, listened after a week, the system sounded awful. Just awful. This was “expected”. Then, another week goes by and again I didn’t sit down and listen until today. The sound? OMG. What the hell is in these things? Layering upon layering. The bass!!! Just amazing and those who know me, know the voodoo drives me nuts. But the CM folks are right, after two weeks: holy sh!t.

I got 3 sets of the .8s. They're great. Improved several things - the size of soundstage, the continuousness of it, and best of all, everything on the soundstage is more 3D with better attack and decay.

I’ve heard only great things about these isolation footers. They must be the real deal. This is the first time I’m actually tempted to purchase an isolation device. There has always been other higher priorities in my system.

Re: Critical Mass Center Stage 2

As to "Where first?", Joe L. says source components first, then linestage, then amps. My commments above applied to a ARC Ref10 phono, ARC Ref 40 and SACD player. I don't have any under the ARCs' power supplies although they too should benefit.

Interestingly, my heavily modified Sansui tuner sounds noticeably better playing (with no footers) since there is something under the preamp.

Like many of you, I was intrigued by all the hoopla over these. I wasn't really expecting too much. They improved most of the minor / nitpicky deficiencies in my system that bothered me with no audible downside that I can hear now. Oh, you do get used to the improvements over time, so they are not quite so striking later on. Not a criticism - just like any other upgrades you make to your system.

Does the picture of the feet above accurately reflect what they look like in person? It appears that none of the top surfaces are flat and the big one looks like it is leaning to the right. They look rough.

No. The top surface is pretty flat, has a small indentation at the top. They don’t lean. That’s just that pic.

Would you be willing to move them aside, and go back to the stock feet for a day? You know, just to double check / confirm your findings. Relying on audio memory 2 weeks later can be deceiving.

Sure. But I’m traveling early this week to visit a customer. So, perhaps next week or later this week. I purposely didn’t listen during the weeks. Once at installation, once after week one, then at two weeks.

I've ordered 2 sets of 0.8 (4pcs per set), I'll try for myself how they compare to Qpods.

Here's some reading on their patent:

Re: Critical Mass Center Stage 2

S3Mk2 is not to be sneezed at either....my journey has been a progression through the series. S3. Q3. M3. Nowhere else to go now.

  32. #32

Re: Critical Mass Center Stage 2

Thank you, I agree. The S3 mk2s are very good, and I do not miss anything as such.

But recently I got some Harbeth 30.2s for my summerhouse. Before shipping them over, I tried them in my main system. They were really good, and I kept them there for several weeks. But when I switched back to the S3 mk2s, I again understood the delta between both models.

I presume the experience might be similar when switching from S3 mk2s to M3s. But both are great in their own right and price bracket.

Re: Critical Mass Center Stage 2

I haven't heard S3Mk2, but I'd like to. I had the original S3 and I liked them very much. But once I got on the Q platform it's tough to go back to S. Not tough at all to go from there to M. Except of course the toughness of the price difference. But when you see M in the flesh you see where the money goes.

Hey Mike, the rack i am using for my components is actually a piece of furniture and not a dedicated audio rack. my system sits in the living room and while i'm open to changing out the rack my gf really likes how it fits with the decor...unfortunately, amps are getting bigger etc and i'm worried about the weight and vibration. not sure cms will help with the weight but would vibration issues be solved if i slipped these footers under each leg?

You really need the rack first and then use the CenterStage 2 under the component and on the rack.

Mike, can you tell me that CS 2 footer works well with tube devices? I want them for my arc ref10,cd9, and 75se , and if the answer is yes, do you think the size of 0.8 is right one for my arc devices

They work great with tube equipment (and digital especially). The 0.8 vs 1.0 vs 1.5 is the same, just measure! You want to measure the distance from the bottom of the chassis to the rack. If 0.8 will work, get those. But with ARC, I’m guessing 1.0...but again, measure.

On the aspect of sizing. According to CM size affects performance. This quote from an email they sent me on this:

"CS2 is designed such that the taller the foot, the better the performance. Improvements are clearly audible and top to bottom in nature without trade-offs. So, the first priority is to elevate the component off of its stock feet. Then, it's a matter of budget and/or your listening objectives."

Do you have to play the system constantly (like breaking in speakers) during the first two weeks or can you leave it turned on?

As reviews say go from 1" to 1.5" for amps make a big difference also 0.8" to 1" for pre,cd make improvements but I dont think for digital sources and pre amplifiers 1.5" make audible differences compare to 1" because digital sources and pre amplifiers are usually under 40 pounds unlike heavy power amps
