in addition to digital output via s/pdif, aes or usb... anyone know if the u1-mini can also stream over a LAN to a dac w/ a network renderer?

The U1 (MINI) is a network renderer, and I don't see how it can be used with another network renderer together. You're probably looking for something like a Roon Core.

yes, but did not know if the lumin app in combination w/ the u1-mini could provide this functionality.

2 questions regarding the Mini. Will the Mini be able to stream Qobuz?. Can a Mini be connected via a XLR Y cable to a Bryston BP 25 pre amp?

You can input your credentials for Qobuz and Tidal and stream right from the app.

Qobuz: Yes - this is natively supported.

As for the connections, if your preamp is analog and does not contain a DAC, you need a Lumin player with built-in DAC such as Lumin D2 / T2 / S1 / X1. These models offer analog XLR and RCA outputs - I think these are appropriate for your connection requirement.

You can choose U1 MINI if you want to use your existing DAC, or a DAC built-in to a digital preamp. It only has digital outputs such as AES / USB / BNC coaxial / RCA coaxial / toslink.

    Hello
I'm new to this site and I have some questions for you.
    1. Is there a Lumin network streamer Wireless ac ?
I have a pair of active speakers to which I want to connect a Lumin streamer, but I would like this streamer to have wireless ac and bluetooth.
    2. Where can I buy a Lumin in Europe?
    Thank you

    1. No - Lumin does not have wireless built-in, therefore it requires a network cable connection, although some users have used a wireless Ethernet adapter successfully. Lumin does not support Bluetooth.

    2. Please refer to the distributor/dealer list here:

I used TP Link wireless adapter with a D1 for over a year and it worked great. As usual it is going to depend on how far away from your router the adapter is going to be as to signal strength.

This is what I used though if your router is close enough to your gear you could probably use a less expensive one.

The Lumin U1 Mini is the best transporter in the world. That is a fact. It's still curious, why it's not wireless, especially it's made primarily for streaming services...very strange...All its competitors have this facility ....

    Re: Lumin U1MINI

Of it's "major" competitors only Auralic has wireless. Aurender, Innuos, PS Audio, Esoteric, Teac, etc are all wired only. I don't count Bluesound which is wireless as a serious competitor.

T9UH would not work with a Lumin product, as a it's a USB WiFi adapter.

For Lumin, you need a Wireless to Ethernet (not USB) converter, which is provided by WiFi extender as Jack suggested, or some (not all) routers in WiFi client mode.

Interesting that you proclaim this as fact while Lumin continues to offer the U1 at nearly three times the price. The original Lumin U1 clearly provides a higher level of performance, while the U1 Mini is a lower cost alternative.

For my needs, it's the best. Sorry I did not explain well. English is not my native language, so I'm making mistakes. The correct approach is: U1 and U1 Mini are the world's best transport network, in my opinion.

Thanks for your clarification, and I certainly didn't intend any offense about your language skills (I wouldn't even attempt to communicate in your native tongue, you're doing very well with English!) Look forward to your continued participation here at AudioShark, and a warm welcome to you!

    Thank you .
Next week I will order Lumin U1 Mini. And a WiFi extender. It is more convenient for me not to stretch cables in the whole house.
I will have to find a dealer in Germany or U.K. because there is no Lumin dealer in Romania
I am surprised that no trader wanted to bring the best products in the world ...
And there are a lot of audiofiles here....

    Re: Lumin U1MINI

I have just taken delivery of a Lumin U1 Mini. It replaces an Ultrarendu and Singxer SU6, both with linear PSUs. The Ultrarendu in turn replaced an SOTM trifecta.

Cold and straight out of the box, the U1 Mini is a small but noticeable improvement over the Ultrarendu/Singxer. I had both plugged directly into my Chord M Scaler and TT2, so I could switch between them to compare. I tried toslink, BNC and USB, although mainly use toslink since this sounds best in my DAC.

The difference is small, but the U1 Mini removes a small amount of “haze” around voices and instruments, and the background is just a little blacker and cleaner. I am hoping that difference increases with burn in.

Of course I am immediately thinking of replacing the internal SMPS with a linear PSU. But it sounds great as it is, and I like the idea of a single box (one reason I decided to replace my 4 boxes with the Mini), so may have to resist the idea unless there is evidence it is a real improvement.

It’s early days but so far I am very happy with the U1 Mini.

I'd be certain at its price that the "Accuphase" 40th Anniversary power cable is a fake from China, eBay is full of them. It looks very nice and may perform well for the money but don't fool yourself into thinking it actually comes from Accuphase.

Hi, I know it's a FAKE but what matters is that the cable does it good synergy with Lumin.

    Re: Lumin U1MINI

Hi, just read the entire thread 'cause my... mini is on its way to me in... Italy.
Let me ask some info, please:

    a) what is the "ground screw" at rear? I mean... are there some tips or better some advices how to connect it? (SQ is what it matters!)
    b) I have not understood well: may I insert a "dongle usb" (where? at 1 or 2 position?) with some files and can I stream it with the Lumin App like I will do normaly with my NAS and Minimserver on it?

Thanks and sorry for my English.

    L.

    Re: Lumin U1MINI

    a) Technically the ground terminal is for people whose AC is not grounded. Some users chose to connect a grounding box to it.

    b) You may insert a USB thumb drive to either USB 1 or 2 position. You can play files this way. However, browsing is slower and is restricted to folder view, unlike using MinimServer. If you also use USB output to DAC, i.e. reading USB thumb drive and outputting to USB DAC, there will be sample rate limitations due to the nature of USB.

    Thank you very much!
Just to.... complete my view, I'll use the AES output only to DAC, so, just and maybe a SSD with USB for the "incoming extra album"

USB thumb drive and HDD should work. Some USB SSD may require too much power.

Ah! Right! So... do you have some advice for using just "250 Giga" of Music? (And...or... do you have some "experiences" about SQ from "this side" or theoretically sholud be the same of the Ethernet input? .... Mhmm... thinking about, USB input should be considered as all the usb and therefore "take advantage" of the improvements if in combination with those "silencers" like iFi audio etc.
    No?)

    Re: Lumin U1MINI

    A very quick (2) question(s):

    a) is it possible to change from U1 mini settings the PHASE of the streaming (from file) Music?
    Thanks.

P.S. Is a "future feature" made possible via firmware?

    b) how can I "resume" (if something will be not...) the playlists from iCloud, if is it possible...

    Re: Lumin U1MINI

    A. Not currently possible. This feature needs to be evaluated with respect to technical feasibility due to complications with DSD and breaking product line consistency.

    B. Restore from iCloud should be automatic if you turn on the iCloud setting for Lumin app, provided you do have playlists on iCloud. Try reinstalling Lumin app if necessary.

I think it is now possible to browse the iCloud playlist file from iOS system (outside the Lumin app).

    Re: Lumin U1MINI

Thanks a lot; for the "b" question all is OK, in fact while I was deleting one playlist I had to accept the form "are you sure to delete it for all the iCloud device", I own... Perfect!
For the "a" question... I'm not (so) happy: I understand that it could be a software update (am I wrong?) but you are not "ready". But.. the U1 (not the mini) can do it! Right? (The DSD files... I suppose are "only" the 20% of the common PCM listening... why do not offer the PCM only?)
I mean.... we are talking about "inverting the phase" because some recordings... bla bla bla...

    Thank you again.

I’m about two months in with my lumin mini and love it feeding my bryston BDA3. I went via AES by siltech and I’m glad I did. Very impressed how analog it sounds.
