Interesting I recently read an interview with Larry Borden where part of it was a discussion of what makes our ears recognize live music, his determination as well, it was transients, dynamics.

So true. I’ve never heard a servo design sound anything other than artificial.

Back around 1974, just before Bill Johnson hired me to work for ARC, I had Infinity Servo-Statik 1s. I never noticed any issues with the servo subs.

However, a few years later, I couldn't abide the deleterious effect of the servo-controlled Velodyne subs. I wondered if I had simply missed the effects with my SS-1s, but I never knew for sure.

Interesting! The best implementation of servo design I’d ever heard was the IRS Beta—“best” being a relative term. The old Nudell-designed Genesis stuff, on the other hand, I couldn’t take being in the same room.

Servo controlled woofers do tend to “chase” and in doing so tend to sound unnatural and unattached , never heard one that was not obtrusive ...
