The best files will be "pre CD mastered" and will bypass
the Digital Aggregators (companies that process the files between the label and retailer.) These processes can have no regard for sq. For instance, a small label can have their files "auto-mastered" by an aggregator for $6 a song. How do you think that's going to sound?

If I understand, both Qobuz and MQA, do not at this time use aggregators, and according to Cookie, Qobuz goes to efforts to seek source masters that are "pre CD master."

He also seems to be doubtful how long, given the state of the music business, if such careful sourcing is sustainable.

Also discussed is possibility of improved sq by caching streamed files to then play offline.

Got it thanks. My issue is I'm already signed up and it sees my computer and automatically logs me in. I can try and find the Qubuz cookie and delete it. I just hate deleting the wrong one, then having to find access and passwords info. I want the real launch to happen.

Also, is your stream coming across the ocean. Which begs a bigger question. Do streaming services have servers all over so the data does not have to travel through multiple pops and switches to it's destination. Or do they have 1 server bank in 1 location.

I used a different e-mail account than the one my paid Qobuz account is listed in so it went straight through. So if you have another e-mail account use it or just use your wife's to sign up for the free trial. The free trial even allows hi-res streams.

Since they have no official presence in the US I would assume all of their streams are coming from the EU servers.

Just log in to Qobuz on the Conductor app and you should be good to go until at least until the Launch takes place if it takes place in November.

Actually can’t get past samples and with that only on my phone.

Aurender appears it loaded it but can get beyond the sign in.

Maybe someone knows from RMAF what the launch date is - I did hear November scuttlebutt

Re: Qubuz in the USA is just around the corner.

I noticed yesterday in the setup menu of my Aurender music servers that Qobuz now shows up under Streaming service accounts. When you tap on Qobuz a window opens for account information, a Join Qobuz tab, and a Try 1 month free tab. Unfortunately at this time when you attempt to create an account you get a page that informs you "Qobuz isn't available in your country". You can enter your email address if you wish to be notified of Qobuz latest developments in your country.

I am happy to see that Aurender is on top of Qobuz integration into the Conductor app. I am looking forward to the official USA launch of Qobuz. An alternative to Tidal will be a welcomed event.

@jdandy, try joining using a PC instead of Aurender. You are likely to get the same message under PC with the URL set to https://www.qobuz.com/gb-en/close/us-en. Change the URL to https://www.qobuz.com/gb-en/ and see if it allows you to register and enter the promo code, with I have a gift code under your profile.

It won't recognize your sign-in with Aurender. You need to set it up from scratch using your e-mail, nickname and password using setup no sign in. Then when you have it set up through the Qobuz website log-in to Qobuz from inside the Conductor app just like with Tidal at the Streaming Setup screen. It still works as I did it for a friend a couple of hours ago.

I wonder if it really matters where the servers are based other than for redundancy, i.e. outages and what not.

Hard to say. IN some cases users will report cannot access the content, while others are not having a problem at all. Could be a server location for a specific geographic location throughout the US or in some other country.

The front door for the web based playback which is https://play.qobuz.com is hosted on Amazon's network. Right now based on the information that is available publicly it is hosted in Ireland. Not sure if users in Europe are hitting the same servers or not I am not sure.

Running Quboz through the Aurender N10 with Tidal running side by side, the needle is holding on Quboz.

One thing I am noticing on some of the selections I choose, they won’t play. I have not tried to delete and reinstall them into the library.

I am wondering if they have specific genres or artists on different servers in different locations and maybe not all pointed or allowed access between them and the U.S.?

There are some tracks/artists that are only available for purchase but the interface does not show that. Qobuz app will let you know once you select it but not before selection. That is one of the issues that the folks on Computeraudiophile asked Qobuz product manager who is actively participating in the Qobuz Issues thread. I am not sure how Aurender handles that.

Some more research yesterday on where content might be hosted. I am in Princeton, NJ and when I was playing using Audirvana to stream to HQPlayer Embedded the stream was hosted on Amazon content hosting which is found the closest entry point which was Amazon NYC hosting facility.

    Chris

Try this and see if it still works:

If you want to do the free trial use this link:

    From your laptop or desktop.

    https://www.qobuz.com/gb-en/

After your account is created then go to your profile and use the gift code CEDIA2018

It will be a UK account but still a free 3 month trial.

If for some reason the CEDIA2018 code doesn’t work try RMAF2018 as it should be active once the show opens

I'm surprised it should create a UK account. This has implications on the subscription price (after the trial and US should have the lowest price) and available music (due to regional music licensing differences), if the same account is used instead of creating another.

Re: Qubuz in the USA is just around the corner.

    Peter

When this was announced at CEDIA I doubt they had the infrastructure or licensing agreements in place to set up US based accounts. When these accounts time out allowing people to experience the Qobuz interface they will have to wait for the roll out in the US to sign up again or if the roll out happens before they can transfer the accounts to the US ones and then start paying the US prices. I am going to keep my paid UK account that I have had since last Summer until I can see what the differences are in selection even though if costs about $6 more at this point as the difference in sound quality and trouble free operation are worth it to me. If the US selection is the same or better I will cancel the UK account and open a US one to save the money or upgrade. I signed up for one of the free trial accounts using another e-mail account just to try the Hi-Res. I only use Tidal as a last resort. Streaming as a type using the free Sublime account.

For Lumin users in the US: Have you been able to activate the 21-day free trial period for Qobuz on your Lumin? A friend of mine said he was able to do so last night. My Aurender app used to have the Qobuz link in its Settings (that could not be activated) but it has been removed during one of the recent updates and has not yet returned.

Wow. A/B comparison with tidal tonight confirms my casual thought that, on balance, to my ear, on my system, without a scientific double blind test or anything, the average track on Qobuz beats the socks off the same track via tidal.

Qubuz in the USA is just around the corner.

From my understanding, it is supposed to be sometime this month

Wouldn;t it be great if a U.S. representative from the company would step forward and provide a brief description of their progress and difficulties? Along with the official anticipated release based upon current implementation.
Just saying. A lot of audiophiles/music lovers are waiting.

As much as we would like to know, if they are in digital rights negotiations, setting an expectation (beyond what's already out there), etc, will only weaken their negotiating position.... which will in turn affect pricing.

Then they could at least come out and say that they are still in negotiations. I just don't understand why there isn't better communication with their potential customers.
Will this be the norm for them going forward? Not a good sign.

I would also have to say that Qobuz are likely to be gun shy in giving any guidance now, since they missed the self imposed RMAF deadline.

I would say there are two things that might be preventing them from release in US. The first is the licensing agreement and the other could be the Roon integration. They are waiting for both to be completed before they release it to general public. On Computer Audiophile Website, David Caraff (sp?) Product Manager has said that they might do a closed beta before they release, but no indication on what closed beta means or how one can sign up.

I don’t blame Qobuz for not making any public statements at this time. The only meaningful statements to be made at this point are either—

    1) We are ready to launch, or
    2) We changed our minds, we’re not coming after all.

Any other statement just invites more questions. Essentially, any other statement is some version of “we are still working on it,” which IMO does not need to be said. That is, unless you think they are not working on it.

Coming from a business background, I have found that keeping your customers and potential customers informed is the best way to instill a bond of trust.
When delays were explained, they were met with acceptance and understanding.
If you don't explain a delay then a persons thoughts tend to go negative.
Explanations do not need to be overly technical.
It is more in maintaining a positive level of communication that counts in gaining and keeping satisfied customers.

That is prudent for existing customers, of which there are none in the US. Unless there are potential customers who might decide to not subscribe to Qobuz because of the lack of public communication at this point, I don’t see the effort being worth avoiding the “risk.”

I have to agree with ya. If this was a US company I would say they might be throwing breadcrumbs down to keep people interested, but this is not a US company so, it appears Qubuz is just getting everything right before they drop this in the US not to mention it apepars they want to have ROON support before a release. https://parttimeaudiophile.com/2018/09/08/cedia-2018-qobuz-usa-launch-roon/

Anyone interested in trying Qobuz for 2 free months in US, post in the thread. I have 3 codes that I picked up form NY Audio Show today to give away. The code creates your account on UK servers so the do not freak out if your the expiry dates has the following format DD/MM/YYYY

@Mike, if the above is not appropriate to post in the thread, please feel free to delete and my apology in advance.

Code sent via PM to you both.

At NYC Audio show they had a booth that you could enter your email address and they would send you email message with the code. The CEDIA2018 code was available to anyone and it was still valid almost after a month.

@jadedavid, if you change your mind let me know and I will send you the last code.
