If you read the MBL set-up instructions, they suggest placing objects like that behind the speakers. They are actually shown in the diagrams. I had one in each corner when I owned 111F's.

A friend had a pair of MBL 101e MK2 and found Bryston 28B SST2 best match comparing to many amps including MBL. Mike, have you tried Bryston 28B SST3 with your 101e?

Not yet. What MBL amps did he try? The Noble
    Series monos are just perfect.

I think it was 9008A mono ... was 5+ years ago. He was surprised Bryston best match. I'll be interested in your experiment.

You have mentioned that the N15 monoblocks are, to date, the ideal match for the 101e Mk IIs. Seems like mbl have been able to extract the best out of the Hypex modules used in the N15s.

How about the Gryphon (Colloseum) or even the Luxman monos?

The Gryphon was ok on the MBL’s. The Luxman I haven’t tried.

    Nice.

The MBL speakers (more so then their electronics) are really popular in Asia.

What do you think of the MBL 101e's? What changes were made for the MK2?

The Fremer review in Stereophile outlines the changes and a whole lot more. I’ve listened to these speakers at Axpona the last two years and their sound quality and soundstaging are truly world class.

Many thanks for sharing the link Ken.

I’ve been an MBL fan for many years and the larger model MBL’s (X-Treme) are still on my ‘bucket list’.

Like you, I’ve found the speakers sound staging and spatial abilities to be world class. Give them space and the 3D reproduction is just stunning.

So you need 4-channels of amplification to drive the speakers?

Nope, not at all. You DO need two sets of speaker cables and amps with at least two sets of terminals. You could use a very long jumper as well, in a pinch.

But the 101e mk2’s allow you to use four monos (or two stereo) amps. Then, two amps are driving and controlling the bass, and two amps are driving the 100hz up Omni drivers. Also, you COULD use DSP on the bass in a very problematic room since the bass amps are separate from the rest of the speaker. OR, you could integrate more easily with JL Audio subs for example and the crossover network. Gives you options for sure.

I will do some testing this week.

    Re: MBL 101e MK2

These were the last pair of speakers that really made me jaw dropping, at a show a few months ago.
They are outstanding, even though I left the hotel with the feeling that the MBL amps that were driving them didn't make them justice.
But the ease, transparency and naturalness this speakers can make are just wonderful.

    Mike,
For each speaker, are you using a “Y” cable to split the signal from the single cable coming from the preamp to the two amps? Or are you using some kind of external crossover?

Two sets of identical speaker cables.

Thank you Mike. What I meant to ask was about the interconnect from the preamp to the amp. Are you using a Y interconnect cable to split the signal and connect to the two mono amps?

I assume you’re asking about the four monos? I’m using and XLR connector between the amps. The MBL amps are designed to be daisy chained.

Jim’s the reason I spent all day getting the MBL room sounding so good! I had in that room Luxman and Magico.

I have had my eyes on them even before I picked up the MBL 111F’s. If I could get a reasonable price for my X2 series 2 I would think hard about them.

    Re: MBL 101e MK2

I stopped by at the Singapore distributor yesterday for a listen. Every bit as amazing as when I went tbeir 9 years ago.
Driven by 4 mbl monoblocks, these could go as LOUD as you wanted them to - without breaking into discomfort or distortion.
They played jazz and classical and The Eagles live well but spinning Pink Floyd the wall at loud volumes was incredible. He then brought out the latest Metallica album, I have hearr it before and wasn't that taken. This was almost taken to the event and the sound was fast, dynamic and incredible- all on cd.

MBL is a speaker you feel as well as listen to. The omni drivers really are unique and this is gives them the best mids and treble I have ever heard.

This MBL system was more musically convincing than the top of line Avant-garde Trios with bass gorns at 350k and all top of line Audio Note amps and Audax digital.

If I ever win the lottery, the top of range MBL would be at the very top of my list.

Ron and Cheng are great peeple at Coherence.

Hearing the MBL xTremes at Coherence was my audio epiphany. In over 10 years I still have not heard anything come close.

Might have to take another trip back there.

Love my MBL’s. Go to Munich, hear everything and realize MBL is still the king. Far superior than some of the over priced stuff we hear there.
