Post Looking for a power cable for my Pass Labs Amp

Most likely I will get a Pass Labs X 350.8 amp in soon, and I’m looking for a power cable for this amp. May I know what cable work best for this amp? i cannot accept hard cable. Some PC like steel that I really hate. I have a Shunyata Sigma Analogue for my per-amp, it sounds nice but this cable's diameter is too thick for me. THX.

If Shunyata is out of the question due to size you might want to try the AQ Dragon.

Thanks! How about Wireworld Platinum Electra 7? It's a flat cable , very soft. I heard it sounds very nice and match with Pass amp perfectly. But the price seem to be very high...

The best easy-to-manage AC cable is Siltech Ruby Hill II, IME. I have yet to find a better built quality. Sounds good too of course.

You don't need OCC silver conductors in your power cable; just get one of the (much) cheaper models which are basically the same cable with copper conductors.

I just purchased a Cullen Cable power cord for my Pass X250 amp. I should have it in 7-10 days. The cables have good reviews and are reasonably priced starting at $100 and up from there. Most have 3x10g conductors.

True. It is a stock PC. Yet some stock PCs are so thin that for I'd rather take no chances when I only have to spend an extra $16

Would I spend time evaluating if the sound makes any difference compared to a thinner stock PC? You bet, I would NOT, not for that kind of money.

Of course, one might argue that it could have unexpected adverse effects compared to a thinner stock PC, but that would be audiophilia nervosa going overboard, in my opinion.

I can’t imagine that one still believes after market ac cables are snake oil. All you have to do is try a viable one like Shunyata.

And a friend who had all kinds of fancy power cables in his system, including very expensive ones, has reverted to stock cables.

I almost always could hear. I just replaced Alpha Digital with Hurricane on my Yggy and heard the improvement. Although not so much with replacing Ruby Hill with Hurricane on the integrated.

most of us are saying that all are not snake oil, rather the absurd pricing is ridiculous. Listen, if you or anyone else can actually show me what justifies some of these 3-5 thousand dollar PC's I'd love to see it.

I have a Venom-HC, a supposed $300 msrp I believe, you can buy it all day long for $175. Is it any better than the Signal Cable variety that sells for a third, absolutely not.

Bottom line is cable discussions on forums like this never accomplish anything. The majority of those that swear by high priced wire, do so with their own subjective bias. I'd be willing to bet that most don't even have a full and complete understanding of Ohm's law.

In the end if it makes you happy........ it's your money !

Just because the ruler you use is different than that of others, it doesn’t make you right nor it isn’t justified for others.

Not knowing Ohm’s law has nothing to do with one’s hearing ability. For what is worth, if you use any type of flash memory, chances are they have my design contributions.

My friend had been asking himself all the time where the midbass was in his system. Once he got rid of his power conditioning and all his fancy power chords, exchanging them for stock, he had his midbass back in all its glory. Kind of a big deal I would think.

It would seem logical that upon inserting the first piece of gear that negatively altered the tonal balance of the system that you would remove that item. Certainly not continue adding more detrimental pieces of gear.
At least thats what I would do.

When there is an item that makes my system sound worse, i always go for another one that could make it sound better.

In other words: power cables make the difference, just be careful.

You should just try some different cables and see if they make a difference in your system.
If they do, that's great. If not then at least you have tried and experienced it for yourself

    Jadedavid,

    Thanks for the answer.

Mikado 463, i don´t want to provoke you but believe me when i say that the influence of the power cables in my system is so big, that is hard to me to understand that they do not make the same in all the systems.

Now, here it goes a good provocation: do you know what can make equal or maybe more difference than a power cable?

    Fuses!!!

I'm just trying to figure out / understand what differences I should be hearing. I have done one comparison (Signal Cable and the Venom HC ) and could not hear a difference. When I hear folks saying there are night and day differences it makes me wonder why hasn't Nelson Pass and others either adopted or at least endorsed said cables ?

So, you have tried power cables. And, you have not heard a difference.
That's OK. As is appearent on this and other forums, some people don't.
A recent audio sound bite had some people hearing Yanni while others heard Laurel. It seems we don't all hear the same.
If something works for you then great. If not then leave it behind you.
In your case you now have the money you would have spent on Power Cables available to do other upgrades (purchases) or just keep it in your pocket.

While Shunyata is large diameter...they are surprisingly supple. If Shunyata doesn't suit the OP, then the. AQ storm cables will be like installing a joint of drilling pipe. They are great sounding cords with excellent build, but so stiff and unwieldy that they will be unusable for many people.

Dave, for me i heard better definition of the soundstage , the bass was also better defined , things seemed to get better in all ways . And i have to say i was really surprised that power cables and a distributor could make such a difference i was and am amazed . Now i also tried loudspeaker cables and can only say , wouuu , i did not expect that to be so much better than an already good Loudspeaker cable ( Yter , used in Bi Wire configuration )
