Re: T+a pa3100hv
The little T+A AMP 8 does not get the respect it deserves. Outstanding amp for the money. I know it very well. I've even successfully run ATC SCM19 and SCM40 with it. These are not the type of speakers someone would expect to drive with this amp, but it did a shockingly good job.

85dB is rather low for sure .... My KEFs are 89dB and the amp drives them very well!

Re: T+a pa3100hv
Kuoppis, Firstly, sorry about misspelling your "name" previously. What are your thoughts on the amp? I'm very anxious to hear a comparison to Soulution, which is the ONLY gear I would even consider swapping my T+A gear for... Thanks!!

T+a pa3100hv
No worries about the moniker .
In my view the T+A 3100 HV is a really great amp. Great detail and resolution, good bass, smooth mids and highs, exemplary build quality. Tremendous value for the money really. But the Soulution 511 outclasses it in every possible aspect, which is no surprise as only the power amp is double as dear. I’ll write more about the Soulution and refer more to the differences I hear, as soon as I get the corresponding pre into my system. But I could easily live with T+A as well.

Re: T+a pa3100hv
Hi,
‘’I am looking to purchase a used PA 3000 HV. I realize it’s the previous HV Integrated, but the price is tempting. There is now way I can afford the newer 3100 HV.
Question is if there is any huge difference between the two? I don’t care much about the fake VUE meters

Re: T+a pa3100hv
T+A has made it very clear: any PA3000’s still floating around out there will NOT be offered warranty, despite claims by terminated dealers to the contrary.
As for the difference, a little sonically, but the big difference is the ability to add the PS3000HV down the road. All the ones I’ve sold, the customers rave about this add on power supply.

Interesting comparison, let us know what you find out.
I recently tried to find out what has changed from CTH 8550 to the mkII version, but did not discover much info on that. Except it has sightly less nominal power due to the new amp topology (as introduced in the 468 monos).
Also, I auditioned the mkI years ago for the Magico S1 mkI’s. While being a very nice sounding amp for the WA Sophia III, it did not have sufficient punch for the Magicos.
The PA 3100 HV can drive the Borresens without doubt.
Never tried the CH Precision or Technical Brain.

Re: T+a pa3100hv
I have to agree with some of the other members here. It would be best to finalize your speaker decision first. Then, try out these respective integrated amps on your speakers to find the best synergy.
IMHO ; the match between amplifier and speaker ; is critical. Can make or break synergy in a system.
I don't think one can make a "bad" choice but, once you find that perfect "marriage" if you will between your amp and speakers; you'll know what you prefer.

I just got the PA 3100 HV. Replaced my PA 3000 HV. Dealer brought it at my house, played them side by side for a while. Whoever said they sound the same, I am not sure what they were smoking. The PA 3100 HV is significantly better. Right off the box. Unless my 3000 was broken

Re: T+a pa3100hv
This is top quality German designed and manufactured equipment. T+A states, in no uncertain terms, that their equipment is not designed to last years but instead it is designed to last decades! In every way they use top quality parts through out. All of their equipment sounds amazing!!!
Even the Series 8 is using technology that was originally developed in their HV and R series, For example the DAC 8 DSD is using the 1-bit DSD processors that were originally designed in their top HV-Series and the amplifier they state is the exact same technology used in the HV and R series;
"...an extremely good amplifier that is built and equipped without compromise. That is why it also has the circuit topologies of our HV and R series. It is fully symmetrical, equipped with the best ThermalTrakTM audio transistors and an intelligent microprocessor monitors the entire device and controls, among other things, the complex protective circuits against short-circuit, overload and overtemperature."McIntosh C49, MC152, MR85, R778 | T+A DAC 8 DSD | KEF LS50 Meta w/S2, KC62 (x2) | Rega RP8, Ania Pro, NEO PSU | Technics SL-1500C | Audio Technica VM750ML | Hexmat Eclipse, Yellow Bird, Molekula, Molekula Mini | Pro-Ject VC-E | Falcon NW PC Server (Roon Core & HQPlayer) | Microsoft Surface Pro 6 (Roon Controller) | Wyred 4 Sound ISO Recovery, DC Recovery | Abyss Diana Phi | Schiit Jotunheim 2 | Astell&Kern SE200 | Oppo BDP105

Re: T+a pa3100hv
Using technology from their reference level products is desirable and allows lower cost items to benefit from advances and offer great value, but it doesn't mean that their performance is at the same level. Many companies do this but it's in the details of the implementation where there are still differences. While they may use the same basic circuit topology the less expensive models are built with lower cost parts and not necessarily to the extreme level of their best gear. There's a reason that they continue to make their reference level gear even after trickling down the technology into lower cost models.

Re: T+a pa3100hv
Of course this is true, however the point I was making is that T+A builds top notch gear across the board, and more so then many companies; they use many of the same design criteria even in their lower prices products.
"The input stage and the voltage amplifier stage also work at higher voltage potentials (HV = high voltage concept). The input stage is a cross-coupled J-FET cascode amplifier and the voltage amplifier stage is a single-ended Class A Hawksford FET cascode. The output stage takes over the current amplification and is equipped with ThermalTrak TM audio high-performance transistors for absolutely stable and inertia-free working point stabilization. The voltage amplifier stage and the current amplifier stage are completely separate from one another and have their own power supplies…"
Looking at their own descriptions and parts used it is clear that extreme high level of parts are used even in their more modestly priced models. Certainly not the same as their highest end models but certainly high quality, and maybe a tad above what many other companies do in similar price ranges.
Specifications Amp 8 versus HV amps (simply as an example):
Freq response 1 Hz - 200 kHz | 0.5 Hz - 180 kHz
slew rate 60V/us | 60V/us
damping factor >170 | >65
S / N ratio >110 dB | >115 dB
THD <0.009% | <0.03%
Very much in line with their top models and better than many other manufactures amplifiers.
Not saying they out do other companies and certainly not saying their lower models are better than other companies higher models, just making the point that they are top notch German designed and manufactured equipment that will surprise many people if they checked them out, even their more modest models.McIntosh C49, MC152, MR85, R778 | T+A DAC 8 DSD | KEF LS50 Meta w/S2, KC62 (x2) | Rega RP8, Ania Pro, NEO PSU | Technics SL-1500C | Audio Technica VM750ML | Hexmat Eclipse, Yellow Bird, Molekula, Molekula Mini | Pro-Ject VC-E | Falcon NW PC Server (Roon Core & HQPlayer) | Microsoft Surface Pro 6 (Roon Controller) | Wyred 4 Sound ISO Recovery, DC Recovery | Abyss Diana Phi | Schiit Jotunheim 2 | Astell&Kern SE200 | Oppo BDP105

Re: T+a pa3100hv
I don’t see how. From my own experience as a consumer, first PA 3000 and now PA 3100, the distribution network is to be desired. Only a handful of dealers. Marketing is non existent. The time from paying for it until delivery is ridiculously long. I don’t think T+A cares much about US market. Too bad, as they can penetrate it easily even with low(ish) budget E series, or R series

It’s important to understand the history of T+A in America to gain perspective on things. They had one mediocre distributor and one really piss poor distributor. Now they are direct to dealer and have some experienced guys running the show for them here in the U.S. My only complaint has been the big price increase 18 months ago, but they’re aware of that. Otherwise, since they’ve taken over distribution for themselves, it’s been first class all the way.

Re: T+a pa3100hv
I have seen an uptick in T+A ads recently and I have seen a few more reviews in audio mags popular in the U.S. Reviews are always over the top and seem to mention the T+A heritage and quality through out.
That one distributor attempted to hurt T+A here in the U.S. He told Stereophile that the DAC 8 DSD was being discontinued as his final parting act. This stopped the DAC from being listed in their ratings. They discover his nonsense and published an update which only helped a little. They also added it back in the online listing giving it an A+ rating.
Signalyst, the maker of HQPlayer that many consider one of the finest digital music playback engines, list the DAC 8 DSD first on their list of recommended DACs, as another example!McIntosh C49, MC152, MR85, R778 | T+A DAC 8 DSD | KEF LS50 Meta w/S2, KC62 (x2) | Rega RP8, Ania Pro, NEO PSU | Technics SL-1500C | Audio Technica VM750ML | Hexmat Eclipse, Yellow Bird, Molekula, Molekula Mini | Pro-Ject VC-E | Falcon NW PC Server (Roon Core & HQPlayer) | Microsoft Surface Pro 6 (Roon Controller) | Wyred 4 Sound ISO Recovery, DC Recovery | Abyss Diana Phi | Schiit Jotunheim 2 | Astell&Kern SE200 | Oppo BDP105

T+a pa3100hv
They’re good, but not the best.
I’ve heard all of the HV series components, and have had almost all in my system, but it was never enough for me to make a purchase decision.
The 3000 series amp lacked bottom heft, the 3100 missed the delicacy on the top IMHO.

Re: T+a pa3100hv
That is fair and great that you have had the opportunity to check them out in your system. Of course your preamplifier and amplifier are almost 4x the price of the T+A integrated...
The same as the review in Stereophile. His gear that he mentioned and compared in the article were about 7x the price. He said some nice things about T+A but keep saying that mine give just a little bit more of this or just a tad more of that (paraphrasing of course).... as should be expected with an amp and pre-amp that cost over $100,000 more.McIntosh C49, MC152, MR85, R778 | T+A DAC 8 DSD | KEF LS50 Meta w/S2, KC62 (x2) | Rega RP8, Ania Pro, NEO PSU | Technics SL-1500C | Audio Technica VM750ML | Hexmat Eclipse, Yellow Bird, Molekula, Molekula Mini | Pro-Ject VC-E | Falcon NW PC Server (Roon Core & HQPlayer) | Microsoft Surface Pro 6 (Roon Controller) | Wyred 4 Sound ISO Recovery, DC Recovery | Abyss Diana Phi | Schiit Jotunheim 2 | Astell&Kern SE200 | Oppo BDP105

Re: T+a pa3100hv
On another note a buddy in our audio club just picked up a pre-owned 3000 series DAC / transport. He had a very nice dCS unit is his system which consists of mainly MBL (pre, mono amps and speakers), a basis table, ARC Ref 10 phono stage, etc.
I have not heard it yet, but I spoke to our club president who has and said it is beyond amazing!McIntosh C49, MC152, MR85, R778 | T+A DAC 8 DSD | KEF LS50 Meta w/S2, KC62 (x2) | Rega RP8, Ania Pro, NEO PSU | Technics SL-1500C | Audio Technica VM750ML | Hexmat Eclipse, Yellow Bird, Molekula, Molekula Mini | Pro-Ject VC-E | Falcon NW PC Server (Roon Core & HQPlayer) | Microsoft Surface Pro 6 (Roon Controller) | Wyred 4 Sound ISO Recovery, DC Recovery | Abyss Diana Phi | Schiit Jotunheim 2 | Astell&Kern SE200 | Oppo BDP105

Oh yeah. Over a year now with this. As weird as this sounds for me, changing my amps have not crossed my mind since I got this on November 2019

Re: T+a pa3100hv
Any reviewer should put the kit under review into its proper context, technical and price wise. Its typical for JVS @ Stereophile to compare even mid priced kits to his reference rig instead of similar priced kits, and conclude that this or that amplifier would work well in his kitchen instead of his listening room. Its kinda disrespectful to consumers with normal incomes for which the high-end kits are out of reach. For the life of me I cannot understand why Stereophile lets Jason review mid price kits he has clearly has no interest in.
Having said that I found the T+A review fairly positive (and you cant call it midprice either )

Re: T+a pa3100hv
I do agree with this. It is not fair compare the T+A to his gear, but on the other hand it is quite a compliment to be compared fairly well to such gear. I would love this T+A amp, but as you said we cannot really consider it midprice either. A piece like this would be out of my price range at this point anyway... but one can dream .
