    Re: New Wilson Speaker Launch

The TuneTot speaker was launched today. Looks cool but, to me, a bit pricey. Base price is $9.8K (standard color), Upgraded color ($700), IsoBase ($2.1K), Grills ($299) and Metal Rings ($649). Lets see how they sound.

    https://www.wilsonaudio.com/products/tunetot

The $10K price point for speakers is getting really competitive - good!

The pricing is interesting, 13.59K with all the goodies.

Thats a lots of dough for a speaker with a 5.7” mid-bass and a freq range bottoming out at 65 Hz. I think the Sabrina is 15K for quite a bit more of speaker.

Most manufacturers quote low frequency response on small two ways at the -6dB point. TuneTotTM is quoted at -3dB.

Well, e.g. the Dynaudio Special 40 goes down to 41 Hz and is getting rave reviews - at a 3K price. The Esotar Forty is also competitive with the Wilson tweeter, both silk domes.

I think the challenge here is that Wilson did not develop a new woofer for the TinyTot, but used the Sabrina midrange instead.

I was looking forward to a new contender in the standmount category, but frankly speaking expected a bit more.

The Special 40 is a wonderful loudspeaker.

Stripping out the level of crossover parts, enclosure materials, and manufacture level from a TuneTotTM to match what is in the 40 would account for much of the cost difference. But that's not the Wilson way. All Wilsons are built to the same standards throughout. Dynaudio will certainly continue to sell far more Special 40s than Wilson will TuneTotTM. That's okay, in fact it's great for the industry. You pay your money and take your choice.

TuneTotTM is not, nor was it designed to be a standmount. That's not the application for which it is intended. It's meant to be placed in more hostile environments with minimal performance compromise. I will say that on the desktop, it certainly far exceeded my expectations. Take that with a large grain of salt - I work at Wilson.

As for pricing, TuneTot sits at the bottom of the top end of stand mount (though TuneTotTM is not one) two ways. When the Sonus faber Guarneri Memento was introduced over a decade ago it was $15k in the US. The Magico Q1 (with a 7" woofer) was introduced at $25K. They are among the true price extreme balanced by the values in the Special 40/Harbeth/KEF categories at the other end of the spectrum. Again, that's ok.

    As always, ymmv.

Good summary, maybe there’s a sub in the works for the Tots.

I’m sure they are spectacular down to 65 Hz.

    Re: New Wilson Speaker Launch

I could care less what drivers come in a speaker. How does it sound? If it's a killer bookshelf then it's worth every penny, doesn't matter if it has a 2" or 12" woofer.

If it sounds bad then it's not worth anything - zero!
