Pass X260.8 or Ayre MX-R Twenty for Ref 6
Does anyone know which amp work better with ARC Ref 6?

Re: Pass X260.8 or Ayre MX-R Twenty for Ref 6
Just curious what speakers you will be using. Both amps will be great. It just depends on what you are looking for in your final voicing. I actually think the MXR-20 balanced with the Ref 6 could be an awesome combo. The Ref 6 will wake up the MXR-20 and I don’t mean that in any negative way. If you have heard both amps, you’d easily understand my comment. ARC and Pass Labs have traditionally been paired together with great success. But my previous experience pushes me towards ARC and Ayre.
ps, Ayre is not crazy about driving difficult speaker loads so please keep that in mind.Fleetwood Deville by Oswald Mills Audio, Vienna Acoustics Haydn Jubilee, Wharfedale Linton w/ stands, Klipsch RB-75, Klipsch RP-160M.

Joe
What if you flipped the combo and put the Ayre 20 series preamp with the Pass amp? Might that give you a similar scenario with the ability to drive anything within reason?Main - JVC QL-Y7/Denon DL-301 Mk II, Gold Note PH-10, Jays CDT3 Mk3 , Auralic Aries G2.2, Holo May KTE, Supratek Cabernet, Kinki Studio EX-B7 monoblocks, Verity Audio Otello, (2) Rythmik F12SE, Audio Envy IC, SC & PC's, Triode Wire Lab PC's, Inakustik USB and I2S, (2) Puritan Audio Labs PSM-156 with Groundmaster City, Timbernation rack

My vote would be Pass X260.8 for the REF6.

presently using a ARC / Pass combination (LS28 / X260.8's), driving a pair of Revel Studio 2's. Pure heaven for me. It is always good to know the speakers in the mix but I can't imagine the X260.8's not doing justice to damn near anything .......
Cheers ! …. Dave

I don't have experience with either pairing, but will say Ayre has a 1 megaohm input impedance, so pretty much any tube preamp on the planet can drive them.
