    Pass amp's power cable

I'm interested to know how's the sound quality of Pass Labs' power cable (X-0.8 series amp)? Because in my experience, some expensive amp come with very cheap and bad quality PC but some amp bring you good quality PC like ARC Ref per-amp. THX.

Sorry, but I did not even unpack them. They’re still in the box.

    Re: Pass amp's power cable

I tend to leave stock power cords in the box for everything. I can’t remember the last time I hooked up a stock cable. I have what I think are “better” (just not crazy expensive) cables that I already have in my system.

    Re: Pass amp's power cable

I did not unpack the stock power cord on mine either.
I would not consider using anything but an aftermarket power cord on any equipment in my system.

    Re: Pass amp's power cable

If memory serves I believe it was my Pass owner manual that said something to the effect aftermarket cords not needed, due to some filter circuitry. I don't have mine any more ffor reference. I remember the stock power cord being hefty.

With that being said, I'm guilty, as well. I had my Transparent there and just used it, stock cord remained in box. Then when I upgraded to the Clarus, Crimson, it improved sound.

Those of us who have tried aftermarket cords know what they can do, what we hear, and, are just convinced. As a reader can see, we just don't bother any more with comparing the stock. I admit though, we probably should. I think we could agree though, the excitement of hooking up a new amp comparing cords is not our top priority at the time.

    Re: Pass amp's power cable

Pass uses Ching Cheng cords - which some proclaim beat most audiophile cords. Best to try them and see.

Audio Research also uses real cords, not 2 cent jobs.

    Re: Pass amp's power cable

Best stock cord I have observed in the Brinkmann Nyquist, which really is no afterthought. Yet I use Shunyata Pass amp's power cable.

Nelson Pass states in my X250 manual that aftermarket cords will not make a difference in this amp. Probably just his opinion though.

    Re: Pass amp's power cable

    I thought so. thanks

I think sometimes the designers are funny about their creation, they don't want it altered. Similar to CJ saying basically not to roll tubes, they picked the ones they feel sounded and performed the best for the job. Odd that if Pass really thought that why make the cord detach.

    Re: Pass amp's power cable

I lived with my new X250.5 for a year before I plugged it into my power conditioner or replaced the stock Ching-Chow cables. The stock cable was 14ga. I first experimented with power cables I had on hand. At first I did not like any of them. But once I calmed down and gave them some serious listening time, the Tice Signature power cable came out on top. Similarly the amp did better via my power conditioner. Although Pass does not recommend either they don’t forbid it either. I like that about them. They keep an open mind.

    Re: Pass amp's power cable

    I've had the Pass XA30.5, XA60.5's and current XA100.5's.

For the 30.5 I went to a Pangea AC9SE and was happy with the results vs the stock cord. When I upgraded to the XA60.5's I used a pair of them for some time.

Next came a pair of Kubala Emotion's which I used with the XA100.5's till I got my Magico S3's. I found the Emotions were a bit too warm sounding and swapped to Elation power cords. I've tried some older Shunyata cords on the XA100.5's and preferred the Kubala Elations.

I may be upgrading to XA160.8's in the near future and will have to start the "fun" all over .
