Harbeth C7ES3 Review... Need some input

    Hello everyone.

I am looking to buy a new set of speakers and I’m hoping you guys can give me some suggestions. I have a particular fondness for the Harbeth brand and I’ve decided to begin my quest for new speakers and look at the Hareth C7ES3. They speaker look good and all but I’d like to hear what more experienced users think about it before I commit to a purchase. Suggestions anyone?

Jeff, I think it would be better/easier if you consolidate your questions to Harbeth in general.

The 7's are a nice speaker. However in order to give more specific recommendations it would be necessary to learn more about your current system, your room and music preferences. Furthermore, what do you hope to gain by going to the 7's?

I have a 13 foot by 12 foot space and I want something that does well across a wider variety of genres. I listen to all kinds of music so it needs to be versatile. Harbeth is the name that keeps coming up for speakers with the most natural sounds and incredible musicality. In an ideal world, I'd get two sets of Harbeths that excel at different genres but that's not in the cards.

I can't speak specifically to the C7ES3 (I listened to the smaller P3s) but the name Harbeth certainly carries a lot of weight. They are know for having a solid mid range and they are tone rich. If you're into a more vintage look, Harbeth is pretty much a no brainer. It all comes down to building a system that fits your taste. Whether you pair Harbeth with a class A amp or Class D their speakers are transparent and you get what you put into it.

Lets be honest, the stigma about the British only producing a quality midrange but forgetting about everything else might be a little true. BUT, that's not the case with Harbeth. The C7ES3 might be dynamic in a traditional sense but they are a solid all around speaker. With the right listening position and stands should provide a near perfect performance. It is consistent with other Harbeths in overall design and musicality. I know a number of people who have had their Harbeth speakers for years and insist they will not get rid of them (maybe only for another Harbeth).

I realize that there hasn't been any contributions to this thread in over a year but I can personally attest to the musicality of the C7ES3s. I've had my pair for about two months now and I can't see myself switching to anything else.
