Nice videos Mike!! Can't tell much on my phone with headphones but it does sound good. They sound very transparent like I like it.

At times I still wish I would have given you a call about them. But I would need a matching center channel and that would be asking for a lot right now. And I didn't want to wait a long time for one.

I think they will sell very well. I actually like the looks of them.

You’re funny Magico Announces the A3 Loudspeaker. I’m really happy with the move, think the S3 mk2s sound really great.

That said, I think it is great that Magico has introduced the A series, making their products attainable to broader audiences of music lovers.

Should Magico introduce an A1 standmount (starting unsubstantiated rumors here Magico Announces the A3 Loudspeaker), that’s probably what would end up in my summerhouse.

    Nice, Mike!
I wonder how it’s compared to S3 mk1? The guys at Magico did ensure me that’s not what I want to do.
If CC to become available though, A series will be very intriguing to me.

    The A3 is sounding amazing!

If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area and want to hear them, give me a shout. So far we have about 100 hours on them and they are really sounding very nice.

Not only the great price point, but also the smaller size and clean design of the A3 will make them much more accessible and versatile speaker for many environments.

Are the A3 and S3 II voiced similarly? My impression is that the Q has a more neutral tonal balance while the S is slightly warmer, weightier. What is the tonal balance of the A3 like?

A little more warmer to my ears. The S3 mk2 is obviously the big brother in the room, going lower, playing louder, playing bigger, etc. But the A3 is the best floorstander I’ve heard under $10k and gives speakers twice it’s price, a real run. In terms of midrange/tweeter integration, think of the best two way you’ve ever heard and now add weight and bass.

I’m convinced the secret sauce is the 28mm tweeter and that midrange with perfect integration (Alon has learned how to nail this). The bigger tweeter makes the A3 play much bigger than its room friendly size. Images are centered above the speaker (think 5th row at a concert looking up at the stage) and the soundstage extends 3D deep.

Lastly, the complete minimizing of cabinet resonances combined with a sealed cabinet sets the A3 apart from all its sub-$10k competitors, and that may ultimately be the real secret sauce.

Thank you Mike. It sure sounds like a standard bearer in the under $10K category. So the A3 is voiced to sound warmer than the S3. That seems like quite a departure from the Q series then. Interesting. Have you hooked it up yet to a system of components likely to be owned by someone considering a $10K speaker? What would the overall target system price be for such a customer, $30-50K?

Listening to The Wailin’ Jenny’s - Storm Comin’, the rain drops at the end are so present and real, the vocals are sweet and pure. Bass is articulate and real.

Rick (retired VAC engineer) is here with me. He noted: “there is nothing about these speakers I don’t like. Off axis listening is also excellent.” He has to say that last part, I won’t give him the sweet spot. Magico Announces the A3 Loudspeaker

Rick is blown away by the driver integration. He called the tweeter/midrange integration “like what you get with a superb monitor, but now, with bass.”

I know its preliminary, but how close to the S II series in performance or is it voiced different?

Mike, What is the footer thread size on the A3? Have you tried other footers?

Mike, What album? I listened to it on the album Bright Morning Stars using Spotify. No rain but that might have been the format quality. I am wondering if it is also on a different CD.

I looked at three different sites that list thread sizes for many manufacturers. One had over 70 listings. Not one listed Magico. I do not know what the Magico standard is and I do not have SPODS. I have GAIA II. I assume one of the three thread sizes supplied will work but I was curious to know which one. I hope Magico does not use something proprietary. Not finding them listed gives me concern.

Re: Magico Announces the A3 Loudspeaker

Thanks Dan. From the site it looks like Magico uses a different size for outriggers vs speakers.

    Stillpoints Adapter 3/8-16 to 1/4-20 (1” length)
    Q5 Loudspeaker
    S5 Loudspeaker
    V2 Loudspeaker

    Stillpoints Adapter M10-1.5 to 1/4-20 (1” length)
    S1 Loudspeaker - Outrigger
    S3 Loudspeaker - Outrigger

While the Gaia IIs are great (I use a set with my speakers and can't think of taking it out), I would shell out the extra and get the SPODs if you believe that footers can do subtle wonders. The Magicos aren't very traditional design, so I am inclined to think that their footers might probably work better with their speakers and have more ROI.

I just found out 1/2" x 13 adapters are available for GAIAs. There are many adapter sizes for GAIAs in addition to the standard sizes supplied.

I absolutely love those binding post's. I had them on my diy speakers. They are a lot bigger than they look. And so easy to work with. I am sure the speakers sound incredible.

Re: Magico Announces the A3 Loudspeaker

I am in the market for a pair of speakers.
I came across the Magico, in particular the A3. I had the chance to listen to the A3, holy sweet mother
The A3 made me seriously to think of the S3 MKII.

Can any of Magico experts/fans help me to find out which one to get the A3 OR the S3 MKII

It is obvious that the S3 is the a bigger and higher level speaker compared to the A3. But I did not have the chance to listen to the S3

If money is not an issue which one you recommend? A3 OR S3

I am assuming that all of you will direct me toward the S3 BUT the question is, can you quantify the difference between the A3 and S3?
The S3 is better by how many % in terms of sound quality? If it is the matter of 10% or less then I will go with the A3.

Please help me to choose in between the A3 and S3

    Please help!

I am in the market for a new pair pf speakers.

I am in-between the S3 MKII and the A3. I only had the chance to demo the A3, which a find it a great speakers. Unfortunately, did not have the chance to listen to the S3 MKII.

I am totally aware that the S3 is a bigger speakers and much more money.

My question is, to your ears how much the S3 is better? Is it really worth the purchase compared to the A3. Again I am totally aware that there is no right or wrong here, it is all about personal taste and budget.

If you listened to both can you quantify the difference? Is there a different in terms of sound signature?

Why would you choose the A3 over the S3 OR the S3 over the A3?

Consider a used pair of Q3. Cheaper than a new pair of S3Mk2. You can get many years of service out of Q3. Save your pennies for M2 and then sell Q3 for about what you paid for them.

    Excellent advice.

Sanbobo, I presume you heard the A3 at a Magico dealer. Why not try to hear the S3Mk2 at a Magico dealer, hopefully with the same equipment in the same room, and then decide for yourself which is the one worth buying?

Is there a reason you have not been able to hear the S3?

Go for the S3 mk2 if you can swing it. It is a better speaker. More expensive, yes, but better. Fuller in the bass, moves a lot more air, plays bigger/louder.

I am an S3 Mk2 owner. I have heard both, and I agree with Mike. The S3 Mk2 has a bigger sound with significantly better bass (larger bass drivers, more cabinet volume) and, to my ears, a smoother top (diamond tweeter). Get the S3 Mk2 if you can swing it. I don't think you'll regret it.

How's that work? Audio gear is a depreciating asset and speakers take the biggest hit on the used market. The more times a pair of speakers changes hands, the less desirable it becomes on the used market. Never purchase used audio gear on the premise you will get your money back when you sell it.
