That makes sense as the M3's and MPro have greater resolution and would be more sensitive to distortion compared to the S Mk2 series. Also the combination of their weight and the larger MPod feet come into play.

Given the S Pods are designed to work with weights ranging from the 43kg (S1 Mk1) up to 190.5kg (Q5), they should work well with the S1 Mk1/Mk2 and S3 Mk1/Mk2, however they would be operating in the middle of their weight range with the S5 Mk2's. Hence the improvement might be slightly greater .

It's an interesting point you made. I'll be curious to hear more opinions on which S series speakers SPOD is most optimal with.

My next audio purchase will be a set of S Pods . Since my S5 mk2's are still on their coasters I thought I might as well buy them now so I don't have to go through that exercise twice. I'm not sure when that will be, but I will report my findings when we have them installed.

It should be straight forward to hear M3 alone, just put the hand grenade pin back in the MPOD to neuter it.

Good luck with that. You would need a hydraulic jack to lift the M3 and uncompressed the MPOD. Even then it wouldn't be the same as the M3 on its stock footers.

I was about to mention that the MPods with the pin in them will sound different from the regular spikes.

I'm not sure I agree that you need a hydraulic jack to lift them though. They aren't that heavy - at least not compared to my MPros and I can insert the pins in my MPods (isn't necessary a 2 minute task but I can still do it...)

As far as I know, grab pin, find hole in MPod, insert pin. Takes some wiggling to get it in, especially in my case because the holes are very low to the ground and I have carpet.

Installed my SPOD's today. IMMEDIATELY noticed a better focused, tighter midrange.

    Bass tightened up too.

Will remove the Herbies now to try.

Okay. I was going by the article jap posted on the MPODs where the reviewer said that when the pin was removed the MPODs compressed. Obviously, if the pin can be reinserted then they aren't compressed much, if any.

The Herbie is the saucer, yes. It's a decoupling carpet glider. Works pretty well considering the price. It was bettered in my system only by the Townshend Seismic Podium. My seismic podium is only rated to 190 lbs, so an S5 mkii isn't going to do anything but fully compress it. Being that Alon seems to like things rigidly coupled to the floor with a damping layer in the footer instead of something like a Stillpoint, I'm thinking the SPOD might be better than the seismic podium.

I use the Herbies to simply help me move the speakers around the store easier. Sonically, better without them.

Is the store on a slab or suspended floor? In my room spiking my previous speakers has enabled the floor to become a giant soundboard, but my floor is suspended. I'm hoping the SPOD will work well in my room.

I did notice a slight change for the better after 3 days. The system's never sounded better. To me, it's a worthwhile upgrade option.

Improvement is immediate and obvious. More bass articulation, more clarity and focus (hence, more details and rich sounding). Not sure if any break-in is needed. Still need more listening time for detail assessment.
As of today my Q3 are now on SPOD. @kzhtoo Improvement is immediate and obvious. More bass articulation, more clarity and focus.

    Exactly!

Add more resolution. Well worth the price of admission.

I also own MPOD so it was a no-brainer for me to pull the trigger on the SPOD.

    Re: Magico SPOD - New!

For the benefit of anybody who might be considering buying used SPOD.

Be aware the Magico SPOD press release "Direct installation on S1Mk II, S3Mk II, S5Mk II, V2, V3, Q1, Q3, Q5" might lead you to assume that SPOD is directly interchangeable between all those speaker models. They are not. The Mk2 speakers have a different thread pitch to the non-Mk2 speakers. So if you buy used SPOD that were installed on Q1/3/5, they will not directly fit S1/3/5Mk2. You will need to use a 3/8-16 Internal, 1/2-13 External, UNC, 1/2" Insert Length adapter such as this on the speaker. Or you will need to extract the threaded stud and adapter that is installed in the top of the SPOD body and replace it with the appropriate stud. This might be tricky as the thread adapter + stud are fastened in with loctite, you might get the stud out but not the adapter.

Mike would have all the details but IIRC the outriggers on the mk1 model require a separate version of the spod that has an adapter built in. It's slightly more expensive too i believe.

If it turns out you buy Spods with incompatible studs, they can be changed to the correct studs for your speaker at the factory.

    Hello,

In a few days, I’ll receive a pair of S3 Mk II.

I added a set of SPODs to my order.

I’m looking for the diameter of the floor protection chits?

I would like to add some Teflon glider patches, it’ll make it easier to move the speakers when adjusting placement.

    Thanks for the help,

    Cheers,

    Thomas

Magico call them floor savers. And how do you propose to bond the teflon to the stainless steel? You don't need to know the diameter, just cut oversize, glue and then trim with a sharp knife.
