    Headphone Cables

Happy Saturday. I am excited to get my Focal Utopia headphones to add to the collection (Audeze, Beyer, Sennheiser). (Thank you, Mike!)

The Utopias come with a super long cable with 1/4" termination, detachable with Lemo connectors. I want to add a couple after market cables to the arsenal. I have found they really make a difference. For Audeze I settled on Jena Labs and Cardas Clear. Today Jennifer and Mike from JENA Labs dropped of my first Utopia addition. A special cable with 2.5mm TRRS 4 pole balanced termination to use with my Onkyo DP-X1 which has a special balanced output. Pic below. Maybe we can share some thoughts on cable differences?

I've had good music from the Moon Audio Silver Dragon Headphone Cable V3 on my Focals.

You may also wish to try the Dana Cable Lazuli reference headphone cable. I heard this cable with the Utopia headphones and the combination is simple divine. Astounding.

Just got my Focal Utopia's and Wywires Platinum combo. Great sound out of the box but will let a couple of hundred hours go by before making a final determination. However, I'm thrilled from the get go....

Here's a review I found that I enjoyed highlighting some distinct differences in character of cables like the Kimber, Nordost, Dana Cable etc...

Pinging for any new insights a year later. I have cardas clear and is superb as well. Let’s all the information pass without coloring it. And is spacious sounding.

    Re: Headphone Cables

I've used the WyWires Platinum on all mine. Great sound plus it's thin and light. Stock cables are awful, especially the Utopia. The only stock one I've stuck with is for my Abyss AB-1266. It's quite unwieldy but the sound is so good I don't have a desire to explore cables.

    Re: Headphone Cables

I used Cardas Clear for a long time but both my long time audio dealer and the seller of one of my headphone pairs recommended Nordost. I now use them for both my LCD-4's and HD-800 S phones. They are versatile in the sense that the kit works for both balanced and single ended connections and you can purchase extensions.

The Audeze LCD-4 comes with an upgraded cable worth $600. i like it but eventually went back to the Nordost.
