Rare Tannoy 15" Monitor Black Repair Questions

Hello, I have a rare Tannoy Monitor Black LSU/HF.15/L. that belonged to my uncle. I am able to find very little info about this speaker. From what I can gather this was the first dual concentric speaker.

The speaker that I have has a damaged cone. I have tested it, the voice coil and diaphragm are intact. I plan on selling the speaker to help out the family and am looking for advice on how to proceed. I have been told that the Tannoy Silver recone kit is a direct replacement for this speaker. I was also told that the original voice coil could possibly be salvaged and even the original cone could possibly be repaired.

Would I be better off selling the speaker as is and letting the buyer decide which route to take with repairs? If I have it completely reconed with the Silver kit how will that effect value? Would it be worth it to attempt to save the original voice coil?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

This model is actually known as "The Monitor Black" . It was the first Tannoy Dual concentric. Thanks for the links though, a lot of good info there.

That's quite a rare piece; the audio equivalent of what a car collector would call a "barn find". You'll get maximum value from selling it as-is. The buyer then has the option of restoring it or leaving it untouched. It's only original once. Good luck.

Re: Rare Tannoy LSU/HF.15/L. Repair Questions

I have a pair of Tannoy Red Monitors in studio monitor "corner" cabinets, I think I may have heard them referred to 'D-builts'.
I am having an issue however with one of the speakers, in that the 'horn' does not appear to be functioning. I've checked most of the connections, namely from the input to the crossover, and to the speaker 4-pin plug - there being some intermittent connection when juggling this plug, but still no signal from the 'horn'. Does anybody have any ideas ? cheers dave
