The 300B's are truly a great sounding tube. While I truly wish them the best in their new endeavor I am still bothered by them leaving all the previous customers without a warranty that they paid for when the company went belly up.
Maybe this time will be better. We can only hope.

I don't think you can blame them for leaving all "their" previous customers without warranty. It is, after all, a new trading entity and not the same company as the old Elrog. Those customers who bought old Elrog tubes were effectively without warranty anyway, after Elrog went belly up. The new Elrog, under new owners, should not be expected to honour the debts of another business, unless it was specifically in the agreement when the rights to the company was sold.

To their credit, the new Elrog owners are trying to help the old Elrog customers ... to a degree.

He does have a partner this time. (The money man).
Let's wish them well. Their products are welcome to the market and are sonically very good.
I personally will reserve my trust in the company until they prove themselves and their products to be reliable.

I don't know the exact business arraingement between Dr Schaffernict and Thomas Mayer.
However on Thomas Mayers blog (Vinylsavor) concerning the release of the 300B's in 2014 he declares his involvement in the company.
Sorry that I don't know how to link to the article.
Perhaps someone with some first hand information could add some details. But Thomas's involvement in the original Elrog is clear.

Re: The future of Elrog Tubes

Was interested in this too, so searched Thomas' website for "Elrog" and read every post (and there were many). As far as I could tell Thomas' only financial relationship was as a retailer of Elrog tubes. He also tested prototypes and was clearly a fan of their tubes (as many people were and are). But FWIW, I saw nothing to suggest any ownership interest in the company.

Re: The future of Elrog Tubes

I think JadeDavid might be talking about this post by Thomas - related to "Elrog 300B is here". The quote in question "This can be regarded as a historic moment in tube history. The first 300B tube developed and manufactured in Germany. I am very proud to be part of this. When I first met Dr. Schaffernicht on the High End fair in Munich in 2013, I convinced him that a 300B tube would be the perfect next step to enhance the portfolio of his magnificent 211 and 845 triodes. Being a perfectionist, Dr. Schaffernicht would not give out any samples of this tube before he is 100% happy with it. It was hard to stay patient, but now I am holding them in my hands and I am happy to share this news with you."

The way that I read it is that Thomas convinced Dr. Schaffernicht to build 300B and his involvement in getting the tube to the market but I could be wrong.

Yes Shadowlight, that is the post that I tried to reference. Thanks.
It would be nice if someone with firsthand knowledge on the Elrog saga could chime in.
Upon looking into this further it appears that Thomas Mayer has made an offer to try and work with any warranty issues on the original tubes to the original purchasers.
    Perhaps I have misjudged him.

Re: The future of Elrog Tubes

    Hi!

I just read this thread and registered to provide first hand information.
I met Dr. Schaffernicht founder of Elrog in 2013 and used and sold his tubes since then. I had no financial stake or partial ownership in Elrog. As has been mentioned, my involvement with the company (besides using and selling the tubes) was merely suggesting new types (the 300B) and reviewing early samples and helping with testing.

In June 2016 the company Elrog had to file for bankrupcy. I bought the assets of Elrog and founded a new company called Deutsche Elektronenröhren Manufaktur GmbH. Under this company I continue to produce the same tubes which continue to be Elrog branded. As of today Dr. Schaffernicht is not involved anymore.

Although legally the new company is not obliged to grant any warranty on tubes produced by the old company, I do accept valid warranty claims. Warranty its granted under these conditions:

    - The claim is from the original buyer of the tubes.
    - The tubes are still in their warranty period.
    - The tubes have been bought from Elrog directly. If bought from a dealer the claim needs to be addressed to the seller and they can work out with me how to handle the claim.

Of course any tubes bought from the new company or from authorised dealers of Deutsche Elektronenröhren Manufaktur are under full warranty. Occasionally there are still tubes offered on ebay or otherwise unauthorised sellers. Such tubes are not warranted. Currently there are authorised dealers in North America (tubesusa.com), Hong Kong, Taiwan and China (Lebreton) and Singapore (liveacoustics.com.sg). Further distributors are in discussion.

Also worth mentioning: All the technical issues the 300B had up to end of 2015 have been solved and as of today I did not get any failed 300B tube anymore. Also general quality and vacuum have been improved and we will continue to introduce technical improvements.

I hope this helps to clarify the situation.

    Best regards

    Thomas

Re: The future of Elrog Tubes

    Thomas,

As a result of Mike B's advise and with Joeinid's kind help, I'm currently using WWII vintage 211s on a Kondo amp that elevated the Kondo's performance significantly over the stock tubes.

Joeinid posted a link to I believe your current website that announced the issuance of a new set of Elrog 211s by your company.

What is the availability of your new 211s?

And could you possibly describe what kind of relative performance do you expect for your company's new 211s versus the WWII vintage versions?

    Thank you.

Re: The future of Elrog Tubes

    Hi!
We are continuing to produce the Erlog ER211 which is a 1:1 replacement to the vintage tubes. The only changes made since I founded the new company are new bases which are now made by a german supplier for us, more uniformly shaped glass and better vacuum. Please understand that I will not misuse this forum to praise the products I sell. There are plenty descriptions of the sound of Elrog 211 on the web.

The new issue you are referring to is probably our ER242C which is a replica of the Western Electric 242C. It is usable in every 211 amp and it basically is a 211 with a molybdenum plate instead of graphite. We only do a limited run of the ER242C in February and that batch is already completely pre ordered.

    The regular ER211 is available

    Best regards

    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,

I understand and respect your desire to not praise your products on a public forum.

Yes the tubes in question are the ER242C replicas of the WE242C with the molybdenum plate.

Are you planning to do another production run the ER242C replicas anytime soon?

    Thanks.

    Hi!

We will first gather the feedback from the initial users of this tube. Based on that we will probably do another run in October. If the demand is there we will also buy or make tools to optimise the shaping process of the molybdenum plate which is very time consuming. And then keep it as regular product. But that will not happen before 2018. There will be some other new tube types first.

They're real eye candy. Been lusting after the big 211 tubes and I don't even have an amp to use them in! Although I'm sure Mike could help scratch that itch

Thomas, are there any plans to produce an 805 tube? After trying your 300bs, I can't but wish you make 805s in the near future.

Re: The future of Elrog Tubes

I really want to go Elrog route for replacing my 845. Either Elrog 845 or 284. For both I have to wait, can not audition and can not get them from a dealer here at my own country which are bad but I still am very interested in them. I am very hopeful that they will complement my Takatsuki 274b and 300b's...

Is there anyone who has heard the new 284?

Re: The future of Elrog Tubes

    Hi!

@adamaley: I am glad you like our 300B. Demand for a 805 would be extremely low not really justifying making that tube. Sorry!
@kodomo: I am sorry you cannot audition our tubes. We are a very small company and only make very few tubes. There will probably never be a world wide sales network. We do exhibit at the High End in Munich this year in May with a system using Elrog tubes. We also plan to be present at the Hong Kong Hifi show this year in August and will have a room with a system to demo the tubes.

    Best regards

    Thomas

There is a possibility that in the future you will manufacture 6550 tubes?

I will try to make it to Munich. Is it possible to buy 845 or 284 directly at Munich?

So can I buy 845s at the fair? Will they be available or just to audition and get in the line?

I can't promise anything. Last year at the Hong Kong HiFi show we were quickly sold out of the tubes which were for sale during the fair. Also note if you buy in Munich I need to charge 19% german sales tax. If I ship them outside the EU, no sales tax.

    Hi Thomas.
I do not have technical knowledge of tubes, so my question is not to manufacture tubes that are not directly heated, is it because of "company philosophy" or is it due to a technical problem? Actually the demand for 6550 tubes that sound close to the Tungsol NOS, he believed would be high.

Re: The future of Elrog Tubes

    Hi!

Indirectly heated tubes require a very different manufacturing process with different production machines which we simply don't have. We have no plans to expand the production line to make such tubes.
