I don't know if you can narrow it down like that. I think they were all made with a particular sound in mind. Does it get better as you go up the line or is it just different. I've heard of guys who have traded up and although they love their new piece still find they want to buy the other piece back because they miss the sound it offered.

I think many would say his 300b amps. Some might say the Giscours, or Latour or 604. His best work IMO can't be defined in one piece, It's his complete system. Shindo pre, Shindo amp, Shindo speaker, and his source... The Shindo 301.

I'm hoping the see my 30.1 by Thursday this upcoming week and 40.1's in 6-8 weeks. I think my friend Jerome uses Shindo with his 40.1's. I can't wait. This will be fun for me.

Yes the 30.1's are great speakers and I have heard nothing but good things for the 40.1's. What amp are you going to be using with the Harbeth's I look forward to hearing of your results

Mike. One of my friend purchased the WE300B about 5 to 6 months ago so I assumed it's possible. However he is having some issues though. ( Mainly with tubes and fuse )

Did you ever listen to them Mike ? May not be your cup of tea.

I heard the Tannoys in Montreal. Not sure of the model, but they were around $30K. They were getting very
good sound in one of the larger rooms with Cary amps. Cheers -Don

Hi Ken,

I am very lucky to have a variety of amps. I can use my Naim SN2, ART monos, MC275's in mono or stereo, Job 225 and MC601's. I have to believe almost everything will sound awesome.

I will definitely keep you updated.

That must be the Canterbury GR . Which Cary amps were using it ? remember them ? or Pic ?

As much as I know you so far....I think they might be too laid back for your taste. Also I don't think they can drive your either speakers . YMMV

Ken, which power amp did you listen to with which Harbeths ?
My CCQs are very good with the 40.1.

Welcome! What Shindo gear do you have? I'm personally very interested in Shindo gear now that I've purchased some very efficient (100db/8 ohm) speakers.

Mike, all 100dB/ 8ohm speakers are not necessarily a good match with Shindo. You should ask Jonathan Halpern ( Tone Imports ) or Matt Rotunda ( Pitch Perfect ).
Although I do not always agree with them, they know Shindo better than anyone else.

Jonathan thinks that Shindo + Harbeth is aweful.
Art Dudley loved the 40.1 with his Corton Charlemagne amps.

All I can say is that the sound of the 40.1 with the CCQ satisfies me to the fullest degree.
Full Range. Full Weight. Big Big sound even at low volume.
The bass level is just incredible on some recordings. Placement in the room is a bit tricky. Sometimes one can have the feeling that the CCQs / 40.1 overload the room.
When I hear how wonderful the little MC225 is, but lacks the full weight of bass of the CCQ's, I can imagine that the standard CCs will be better suited for most rooms.

From what I understand Ken Shindo's son has been working with him for a number of years so I would expect things to "stay the course." What will be interesting is seeing new pieces introduced, or re-worked older models.

I used to own a Cortese and it's a great amp, very close to a 300b in t he midrange and better bass. A lot to love there..... However you must have high impedance speakers with high effiency. Plucked strings and voices are really special
