Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
Having ordered a pair of Shindo 604 speakers, my mind now turns to speaker cable. Shindo wires are the obvious, if not expensive, choice, probably followed by Auditorium23.
I'd certainly appreciate thoughts or suggestions from other Shindo speaker owners about cable preferences. What cables have you used and if you've used different kinds of cables with your Shindos, what were your (hopefully detailed) impressions? Thanks!Craig

Of course you could go the Shindo route, but others have been very happy with Sablon. I have A23 myself.

Re: Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
Hello,
I used 2 different cables with my CCQs.
WireWorld Silver Eclipse 6 and pure solid core silver cable from a US brand ( I have to look for the exact diameter and brand : I forgot them). Both are only 1 meter length ( monoblocks near the speakers).
The pure silver cables give a more opened treble on my speakers with more extraverted timbres. The WireWorld is more relaxed and maybe a bit more weighty.
Differences are rather subtile to my ears so I stopped "playing" with cables.
But I think that Shindo is made for silver cables.Shindo, Nagra, Electrocompaniet, Harbeth, AMR, Mc Intosh, Auditorium 23, Rega, DeVore, JC Verdier, WireWorld, Kimber

Re: Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
I'm not sure I can swing the Shindo wires at this point! I also just picked up a DirectStream DAC... (it sounds real nice - feeling smarter than I am for buying it!)
My dealer will bring some A23's when he comes to set up my speakers. I have Sound Strings right now and they're great, so I'll be interested to compare to A23's. I've read Jeff Day and Jack Robert's positive reviews about the Sablon products - I'll check them out too.
I recall reading somewhere that certain Nordost work well with Shindo. Perhaps heresy to some.Craig

Yes, it will shine with silver cables. So Shindos best cables are silver itself.

The A23 SCs would just about be the de facto standard, and you would nearly be guaranteed great results.
Personally, I have been quite impressed by the KLE gZero 6 speaker cables, based on an audition in my system and also listening to them in a few other local setups.

Re: Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
I do not believe in one ideal cable. Cables are just a way to fine tune a system.
In most situations, pure silver will be the best with Shindo but in rooms with very clear acoustics ( too reverberant) it will be a good thing to reduce / soften the treble energy with copper cables.
I am having superb results in my room with WireWorld Mini Eclipse 7.
An other way to tune the sound with cables is too exit the rule of diameter / power.
If the amp / speaker combo is overloading the room, using a small diameter cable will help a lot.Shindo, Nagra, Electrocompaniet, Harbeth, AMR, Mc Intosh, Auditorium 23, Rega, DeVore, JC Verdier, WireWorld, Kimber

Re: Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
You don't believe in one idea cable. But you have never tried cables built to be used with shindo gear. You have never used auditorium or shindo cables. So your opinion is of little value in this discussion.
If people want to know how Harbeth sounds with shindo that would be something you have experience with and your opinion would be of some value.

Re: Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
Hi Jim,
Thanks for this...interesting! This is the 2nd time in a week i have heard mention of these cables. DDK whose Siemens Bionor, Lamm ML3 system is the stuff of legend, mentioned them as well.
When you say sensitivity of 95db or above, does one also need to consider ohm load? Specifically, any thoughts on how they might work with my Wilson X1s (95db and fairly friendly 5ohm load overall, with a 3ohm at 15khz or so, and another around 80ohms)? Thanks!Speaker: Wilson Audio XLF + Velodyne DD18+

Re: Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
I now recall that it was the "Jeff's Place" site where I first read about this WE wire. After looking on eBay and attempting to find the kind of wire described in the article on the website, it seems clear that it's pretty difficult to get and therefore, not a practical consideration for my purposes. However, buying old spools of wire on eBay is cheap, and probably worth some experimentation.

Re: Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
So I got mine from the same place that Jeff got his. It is the same 16g WE wire. I have spent some time with it now but not enough to be totally convinced.
First off A23 auditorium wire is quite a bit better in my opinion. After swapping back to back I enjoy the A23 more. I was listening yesterday to the white album in mono and I was wondering why I did not enjoy it as much as the last time I listened. Then I realized I was not using my A23 wire and the WE was in use. That being said the wE wire is very interesting and for the cost is perhaps a good option for people who can get ahold of it and don't want to spend too much money. I can't say anything bad about the WE wire, just that it does not create as complete a presentation as A23 wire does.
I have a pair of transparent cables that I use in a 2 nd system. The WE wire is much better then the transparent.

Re: Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
Yes, this is a different sounding system than old style WE, the speaker would have the most in common with WE. otherwise different.
So, different cable may suit better. WE used their own cable and never came up with an idea to substitute, because it fits best for their idea of sound.

Re: Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
I wonder why WE has choosen to use those cables if they wouldnt fit perfectly into THEIR systems. Todays hifi and perfectionists sound approach was not their goal. All they wanted was reality and credibility to their audio sound. May they have failed? I dont think so.

Schmitt, where did you get your WE wire from and what systems have you tried it in? Did you compare it against A23 wire as well?
I got mine from the same gentleman that Jeff Day did.
Was this specific wire used by WE for speaker wire runs? Do we know this.
I am confused as to why you are so defensive about this stuff.

Sorry to be so tardy in replying. I write this from my wife's hospital room. I have been here since her surgery yesterday.
My 95dB number is simply an impression - I have no facts to support that observation.
In general, I have never considered a 95dB 4-5 ohm speaker to be sufficiently high in efficiency, but that's just my viewpoint.DPT4ME - Dynamics, Presence & Tone for Musical Engagement; MBP (3) - stripped down for music only; Shunyata Omega & Sigma USBs; ISO REGEN w/short Curious USB links; Berkeley Alpha USB; Aqua La Scala II Optologic DAC; Schiit Yggdrasil - fully updated; Ayre Codex dac - updated; Pass Labs INT-60 integrated amp; Wyred 4 Sound STP-SE-2 preamp, Quicksilver Mono 120 amps w/Tung-Sol KT150s; Quicksilver Mid Mono amps w/Gold Lion KT77s; Fyne Audio 703s; Symposium Svelte Plus & Ultra Platforms; REL S-812 subwoofers; Duelund DCA12GA speaker cables; AV Room Service EVPs, Stein Music Harmonizers, Duelund DCA16GA & 20GA ICs; Shunyata Denali 6000S/V2; Tripp Lite PCs; Wyred 4 Sound power cords; AudioDharma cable cooker; dedicated custom room; various GIK & ASC room treatments; etc.

Re: Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
I used several different versions from WE speaker cable and yes, I know A23 wire as well from my own setup and some others. I know how it sounds. Different materials and manufacturing techniques led to different sound, thats the nature of things.
But it all boils down to the question what goals in listening someone has. And the higher the equipment quality goes, resolution and other hifi artefacts become a byproduct of something like authenticity in the result of the efforts. And thats a rare quality in cables today as you can read in Jeffs review.

Re: Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
Not much to update yet, since I won't buy speaker cable until I get the speakers and try a few options.
However, I did get one set of Shindo IC's which I swapped for the Soundstrings - and they did improve things noticeably. I didn't expect more intense base, which I don't actually need, but it arrived with better control over lower registers. Everything got more crystal clear, in a smooth liquid way, like a bit of veil was also lifted from music. This is especially true for vinyl.
At this point, I'm leaning towards A23 cable as a cost effective choice and I'm looking forward to hearing Nordost too. Shindo speaker cable doesn't make sense at this point when greater sound-improvement-for-the-buck would surely come from a pre-amp upgrade, like a Masseto. My goal is all Shindo ICs, although my Harmonic Tech IC's sound great connecting the DirectStream to the Aurieges, definitely better than the SoundStrings ICs. BTW, the DirectStream continues to sound better with each day!Craig

Re: Speaker cables for Shindo speakers
Having followed the link before it was deleted, I can confirm it is a Japanese site selling some cables. Unless Schmitt is actually a covert dealer, which he denies, and this forum dis-allows dealer self-promotion, it wasn't spam.
However, I'm not much interested in ordering cables of which I have no knowledge. They might be wonderful, but I am asking for feedback from forum members that have recommendations based on listening experience. I have heard High Fidelity speaker cables with Shindo and it was great, but I didn't get to compare Steve's mothballed Shindo loom, so I can only surmise that Jack Roberts comparisons and ranking of these cables is correct.
I'm beginning to realize that most Shindo owners use Shindo or A23. It seems that my original question ensured that this thread would reach its point nearly immediately followed by devolution into bickering. Idle hands... Perhaps it was my bad.
At this point, unless anyone has heard Nordost with Shindo, I've gotten what I need here. Thanks everyone.Craig
