Masseto - high gain on digital?

I just purchased a used Masseto. Sounds beautiful. But it's curious that the gain on digital seems so high... at least judging by the position of the volume control with digital versus vinyl. On vinyl a reasonably loud listening level is at 10:30 or 11:00. With digital it's at 9:00. With my previous pre-amp it was the opposite. I have an audio note 2.1 DAC, which I don't believe is known for high output. My friend tells me the DAC output is 2v.

Is this familiar to anyone?

The line output is 5V, if your digital source provides a higher input voltage than standard, this output voltage can possibly be even higher.
