  1. Re: Computer with Roon and HQPlayer discussion.

Thank you, and yea, a laptop is really not a great choice for this purpose :)...

I have found in my tests that HQPlayer appears to be very CPU intensive!

My new i7 8 cores works superbly...
  2. Computer with Roon and HQPlayer discussion.

I was curious what computer specs people are finding work well with Roon and HQPlayer.

I do not want to turn this into a pre-built music server/streamer versus purpose built computer as a...

Re: Ref 10 Replacement in Feb 2020 ?

If I could comfortably afford one I would probably give one a try. Even if it didn't sound any better then the Stage 2 I think the prestige and history of ARC might win out.

    Re: ELAC sub

Thanks AJ. I am not a huge sub fan but I agreed with Jon that the lower octave was being rolled off. I also believe that Andrew Jones has designed some pretty amazing products that perform well...

    Re: Klipsch quartet question

I have never heard of putting weight on a passive radiator either. I cannot imagine asking that question being a ban able offense.

    Re: ELAC sub

My room does not have good placement for multiple subs. I put it where Jon suggested and it seems to work pretty good there.

    Re: ELAC sub

Hey AJ, Not sure... I am running the auto settings at this time. The manual controls allow for pretty much any freq you want from 20-150. It has a parametric eq, 0-360 phase, and everything in...

    ELAC sub

After hosting our last audio club meeting I asked our member who is a reviewer for Stereophile magazine his opinion. He has always given me his critiques and suggestions.

    His only suggestion was...

Re: Ref 10 Replacement in Feb 2020 ?

Hmmmm... I don't think I will live long enough by cutting my steak intake in half to "save" for a ref 10.... $30,000 divided by lets say $20 for a good steak. So 1500 less steaks.... hmmm.... Now...

Re: Ref 10 Replacement in Feb 2020 ?

It looks like you have a fantastic system! Obviously I was kidding about the Ref10. I would love to try one :). But, as you said, there are other areas in my life :).

    Re: Automotive Sound

That is very cool! Sounds like they would be great.

So far I am happy with the Burmester Audio system in my car. I am equally sure that it is not the same as the one they put in the Porsche. ...

Re: Ref 10 Replacement in Feb 2020 ?

Of course the world needs another $30,000 pre-Amp. Just kidding, I respect ARC, but dam... how many ultra expensive pre-amps do we really need.

I have a friend who got rid of a Ref 10 liking the...
  14. Re: Computer Audio is Dead and Streaming has killed it

Since I very much prefer DSD streaming services such as Tidal will not do. Yes I know and do upsample everything. However I do believe the better in the better out as far as upsampling so I still...

    Re: AMP8

I hosted our audio club meeting last weekend. This steller little amp played all day, at fairly high levels. The audio club guys definitely like to get a little volume behind things. It was an...

Congratz on your new toy! Always fun playing with something new :).
  17. Re: Computer Audio is Dead and Streaming has killed it

For the most part I found this to be true, however sometimes I have had to go and find my spinner on the network again to update the IP address in the software. This really is only the case if I...

    Re: Automotive Sound

Agreed. I loved that my last car had a slot right in the dash that a SD card slipped in and you were done. I guess they have determined that USB-C is the future and that is the way they are going. ...

    Re: Automotive Sound

Yea, I use one of these in my wife's SUV. I could not find anything that small for USB-C. I prefer not using an adapter because it defeats the purpose. The one I found was on the smaller side, but...

Re: MBL Reference Event at Suncoast Audio

That is awesome. I am sure my buddy who owns those speakers, mono block MBL amps and a MBL pre would love it. Not sure he would want to travel 3000 miles for it though :).

I do not believe there are any SD slots. Too bad, my last Mercedes did have a slot, but could only handle MP3 <yuck>. It appears the car only has USB-C ports but, the Burmester can handle high...

  25. Sticky: Poll: Re: What type of amps do you use? Tube? Solid State? Both? Hybrid?

It really took me some time for my mind to get over how small physically the amplifier is. I always thought you needed a huge box with massive heat sinks, something similar to the SET amps or the...
