  1. Re: The forgotten song Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett wrote about Bob Dylan

Thanks for sharing that. I am a big PF fan and have not heard that. As the holidays are upon us I would like to suggest to everyone that we do not address mental health properly so if you can donate...
  2. Re: Finally Found What I Wanted and Pulled The Trigger

Congrats on the new piece. I believe the biggest improvement will be in the midrange, it will be more liquid and 3 dimensional.

Re: Looking for new amps Classe / Gryphon

I agree with this^^^^^ I have been down the "low efficiency/high power" road with many speakers and amps. Once I heard what horn speakers and low power amps could do I was hooked.

Re: Decided I Needed to Go for Tube Preamp

I replaced my Cary SLP-05 with an Ayon Auris a while back and couldn't be happier. The switchable gain is a nice feature so you are not stuck using just the bottom 1/3 of the volume control.

Re: Looking for new amps Classe / Gryphon

Why is so much power needed for those speakers? It seems like a nice 25-50wpc tube amp would be enough?

    Re: new speakers, with Humbolt

Dang, I'm disappointed. I get all excited about someone going through all of the thoughts, emotions and money to buy new speakers and it turns into a cable thread. What a let down....lol.

    Re: new speakers, with Humbolt

I know nothing about Wilson's so I am no help there. Let's see...classic rock, easy load on the amp, free flowing, impactful and dynamic? Easy peasy, either the Volti Rival or Volti Vittora. BTW,...

    Re: New Preamp

The drama of powering a kit on for the first time is a bunch of fun. Pointing out to folks that you built it is the very best feeling ( if it didn't blow up ).

    Re: New Preamp

Congrats, that's really nice work there and I'm glad it sounds great. I am also a DIY'er and have built many kits. However, none of mine have come out looking that nice.
  10. Re: Why You Need More Than Just "Trusting Your Ears"

Many speakers ( which will go un-named ) have a fairly flat frequency response, time correct, etc. Many of these speakers, to me, sound boring and lack the life to reproduce music in a lively manner....
  11. Re: Why You Need More Than Just "Trusting Your Ears"

I own a $4000 sound level meter that will do center octave readings as well as "A" and "C" scales. I have never used it to measure my system, I use it for work. If I can't tell by now what sounds...

Re: What are you listening to tonight ?

School and Asylum are both best listened to cranked up ..lol. I saw Roger at Ruth Eckerd Hall a few years ago and he was awesome.

    Re: High End Audio Dealers

Many years ago we had at least 5 or 6 hi fi shops in Tampa. One store had Advent, Yamaha and Dual while another store had Bose, Sansui and Thorens, etc. We went to audition equipment and see what was...

    Re: Volti

The Razz's and my other new equipment has settled in quite nicely and providing much musical entertainment. My present system sounds great on regular CD's as well as "audiophile" CD's. I have had...
  15. Re: Is my hearing getting better as I get older

I don't have DSP or anything like that. I have a very simple system of CD player, pre amp, power amp and speakers. BTW, 2fastdriving, I read through the Wilson manual and there are all kinds of...
  16. Re: Is my hearing getting better as I get older

I am 66 and I know for sure I don't hear as well as I used to, especially high frequencies. Luckily my speakers are designed to allow the user to change the resistors on the midrange and tweeter...

    Re: Eagle's Concert

I have seen the Eagles twice, once during the Hell Freezes Over tour and then they did a history of the Eagles tour about 5 years ago. They were excellent both times.

Re: What are you listening to tonight ?

I just gave another listen to Deep Purple , Child in Time and I am once again blown away. There is a live version from 1970 on You Tube that is fun to watch if anybody smarter than me will post it....
  19. Re: Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon album cover is more complex than it looks

I saw Pink Floyd in Tampa Stadium when they first released DSOTM and then saw them 3 more times over the years. I have listened to this album hundreds of times. The only other album I have listed to...
  20. Re: Power amplifiers that excel with very low impedance - and low efficiency loads

If a person is going argue with Ralph about amplifiers I have just one suggestion for that person. Do not enter into a battle of wits unarmed.
  21. Re: Stupid question of the day; When introducing a new component, do you find you need to adjust speaker positions?

I agree with this with reservation. Critical listening has almost nothing to do with how good your ears are. Critical listening is a learned skill that takes years of practice. For instance when I...

    Re: My DIY speakers -"J&N"

Very nice! Can you give us details on the drivers, crossovers and cabinet volume/design? How efficient are they and what kind of load are they?
  23. Re: Stupid question of the day; When introducing a new component, do you find you need to adjust speaker positions?

I believe you are opening a can of worms by messing with the speakers and trying to audition a new component at the same time. I would set the speakers where the bass is the most even with your old...

    Re: Criticizing a friend's system

If he is very proud of his system isn't that what matters? Plus, all of that new stuff will probably settle down after break in. ( Break in is part equipment and part listener)

Re: PS Audio P20 vs Denali 6000/S V2?

A few more thoughts on the Denali. Besides the positive changes noted above the instruments are clearly better separated which equates to a more relaxed and musical experience. I have everything...
