    Re: Speaker Journey

I also enjoy the KEF sound and the Maggie sound. I owned them both at the same time and they were driven by an Aragon 4004 Mark 2 amp, Melos SHA-1 preamp and a Carver 490t player. They each had a...

    Re: RIP Dusty Hill

I saw ZZ Top live one time when they opened for Deep Purple on the Smoke on the Water tour in the early 70's. Nobody had heard of them at the time but our group agreed they were pretty good. RIP...

    Re: Thorens TD-124 DD

This is totally unrelated to the turntable talked about in this thread but I have a Thorens story. Many years ago my buddy was buying a Thorens turntable from a dealer by the name of Thieves...

Re: Best sound ever in my house

One word will sum this up....badass.
  5. Re: I just got 40 albums back I gave away in 1986

Congrats on getting your old records back. I gave my collection away at least 30 years ago. I probably deserve to be publicly humiliated for being a dumbass. (Oops, I just was.....lol)

Re: What are you listening to tonight ?

I was reading some stuff the other night about which Dark Side of the Moon CD version is the best. So I broke out the 20th Anniversary Edition, the Toshiba Japanese pressing and the original MFSL...

    Re: Volti

As discussed in another thread I have added a Pass XA25 to replace the F6. My whole system is fairly new so all of the components, especially the XA25, have continued to break in with the bass has...

    Re: Ordered New Laptop

Falcon are the absolute best when it comes to customer support and their machines are top notch. I really like CCleaner and Norton together, never a problem.

    Re: Equalizers

I had a Sound Craftsman EQ back in the 70's and 80's. Back then I was willing to accept some noise and veiling of the sound to get the overall balance right. There is no way I would use one again.

Re: New Amp on the Way

Indeed....ASR cracks me up. I skimmed the "review" and the attached thread. I didn't see any mention of sound quality, did I miss it?

Re: vandersteen ct treo + Rotel

I do remember Bob Carver and the famous audio challenge, it was a very entertaining time in audio and is a very entertaining read now. For a long time I had a TFM-25 power amp and a Carver...

I think the hi fi gnomes come to your house if you post the same thing on multiple threads. Keep your shades pulled down.

Re: vandersteen ct treo + Rotel

I have an extra set of those felt tweeter rings I will give to you if it will help. You might want to look inside of your Tandberg gear and see if a capacitor bulging or anything. I had an older...

Re: vandersteen ct treo + Rotel

Some of the Rotel amps are very nice, sorry I can't quote model numbers and stuff. Just buy what you can afford, it might turn out to sound awesome. And yes, some of the newer stuff from highly...

Re: new amp on the way

When I called Mike my intention was to get a Luxman amp but it would have been a very long wait due to all of these delays. I got the XA25 as I just had to buy something and the wait was only a month...

Re: new amp on the way

This XA25 (and perhaps my fairly new Player, preamp and speakers) continues to change it's sound a bit as it gets a touch smoother with more bass almost every few days (getting darker). I wound up...
  17. Re: A good short article on comparing various formats

Thanks for the kind words. I don't know the details of how it is converting PCM to DSD but I do know it makes older CD's sound smoother without killing the highs. CD's which were unlistenable are now...
  18. Re: A good short article on comparing various formats

It is an Ayon CD10 II, which is an excellent player. My older Ayon CD 2S started being finicky about reading discs so I had to replace it. I still have to send the 2S in for repair, laser and micro...
  19. Re: A good short article on comparing various formats

Yes Randy, my player up samples CD PCM files to DSD. Not sure why a DSD 256 download would be any better than my CD player converting the data from PCM to DSD256. Cheers.
  20. Re: A good short article on comparing various formats

Very nice article. I don't know anything about downloads as I am still spinning cd's. My cd player has PCM to DSD processing (256 or 512 ) as well as 2 digital filters. One of the filters is "flat"...

    Re: Cable direction

The arrow points in the direction of signal flow. Also, don't be afraid to try it in the "wrong" direction, sometimes they sound better that way.

    Re: Today’s Install

That is a very nice setup and room. I agree with Mikado463 about the speakers being more into the room, most systems I have heard sound better (to me) this way. Also, depending on how the bass sounds...
