Re: Built for the love of music...

Fantastic system and great care and attention paid to ancillaries and the routing of cables.

I thought that it as a brief, but accurate appraisal of the GAT2 by Jacob. I commented about the description of the tube compliment on the Absolute Sound website.

    Re: Subwoofer Enhances Stereo Listening

I'm not sure which subwoofer manufacturer first used speaker (high) level connection from the power amp to the sub, but my first REL Stadium subwoofer, purchased in 1992, advocated this as the...

Re: Ken Burns - Viet Nam War

It's just started on this side of the pond. I have recorded episodes 1 & 2 and will watch them with eager anticipation.

As a student of American history, I particularly enjoyed Ken Burn's previous...
  5. Sticky: Poll: Re: What type of amps do you use? Tube? Solid State? Both? Hybrid?

You can't really see the REL sub in the picture above. It's on the right hand side of the room, in the corner behind the speaker.

The REL Gibraltar G2 has a 10" woven driver, not dissimilar to the...

  9. Sticky: Poll: Re: What type of amps do you use? Tube? Solid State? Both? Hybrid?

Tube preamp, although strictly speaking, my CJ GAT Series 2 could also be described as a hybrid design, utilising only a pair of 7DJ8 tubes in the gain stage.

Re: Cut out the Preamp and go Direct?

Now in my 60's, I am a firm disciple of the digital camp, preferring to spin silver discs than vinyl albums for much of the time.

Because I have a large record collection and many LP's collected...

    Re: New Ownership for Conrad-Johnson

As a UK owner of GAT 2 and Premier 350SA amps, this is good news for the future support of CJ products.

I have corresponded with Jeff on several matters via email and he has always been prompt and...

    Re: Tad, Vivid or ?

    Alex

I learned years ago, that locating racks full of gear between the speakers, screwed with stereo imaging!

When I bought my current (and last) home four years ago, I was faced with a number...

    Re: Tad, Vivid or ?

    Thanks Joe.

The build quality of TAD speakers is amazing and they look amazing.

They are a big hit with the wife, because, in her words, "they match the curtains!"

    Without wishing to offend...

    Re: Tad, Vivid or ?

I have absolutely no experience with Vivid Audio speakers so cannot comment.

I do love my TAD CR-1's though, which replaced eight years of Avalon use in my system.

They do like a lot of...

    Re: Stillpoint Apertures

I recently borrowed six of the Aperture panels from my dealer and invited some mates over for a listening and evaluation session.

We all agreed that the "best bang for your buck" was two panels...

Re: Racks - got any favorites?

Stillpoints all the way for me!

As my "box-count" has increased, I needed a second ESS rack. The entire system is "floated" with Ultra 6 X 4 under the power amp (on a Component Stand) Ultra 5's...

    Re: Tube dampers ?

There are only two Philips PCC88's in my CJ GAT2, but the UK importer/distributor recommends listening without the supplied damping rings in situ.

It's subtle, but I agree with his advice!

    Re: Subs and Cabling

    Agree with Mike.

The Baseline Blue cable is a worthwhile upgrade from the standard high level cable supplied with REL subs.

Re: 2 channel system and subs.

I use a REL Gibraltar 2, crossed over at 40Hz to add a subtle "bloom" to my TAD CR-1's.
  25. Re: Any Melco streamer fans here? Looking for your input.

I've been using an N1A into my dCS Vivaldi 2.0 DAC since 2015.

Connection is via a Tellurium Q Black Diamond USB cable and the noise floor is really low.

I'm looking to try out the N1Z/2 as...
